Paris Hilton just can’t stay out of the headlines at the moment.
Her personal life recently took a knock as she split up with her fiance Paris Latsis, only to get called a "hooker" by his friends, and now her professional life is starting to suffer as well. Her TV show The Simple Life has just been cancelled by Fox.
The Simple Life was an interesting show – Paris Hilton (DVDs) and her
friend Nicole Richie travelled around America being rich and stupid all the time. Mostly, Nicole was the funny one, while
Paris sort of followed her around slurring bland platitudes at rednecks.
But now The Simple Life is no more. According to a Fox statement:
"At Fox we have a unique midseason situation. In January we have to accommodate 2 1/2 hours of new programming with 24 and American Idol. We also have completed episodes of both scripted and unscripted series in the wings. We’re enjoying solid performances by our returning shows and we’ve also ordered full seasons of Prison Break, Bones and The War At Home. Collectively, we did not see a place for The Simple Life on our schedules this season."
It’s
been said, however, that the real reason for The Simple Life being
dropped is the tattered personal life of Paris Hilton. Firstly, she
fell out with Nicole for unknown reasons – and if they’re not talking, then filming them together would be tough.
A way around this was for the show to separately follow Paris
and Nicole as they both prepared for their weddings – Nicole to Adam
Goldstein and Paris to Paris Latsis – but this fell through when Paris
and Paris broke up a couple of weeks ago.
New ideas for the show have been floating around the Internet over
the last couple of weeks – one of which included Paris and Nicole
trying to break up happy marriages – but they obviously haven’t
impressed the Fox network.
Not that any of this has phased 20th Century Fox Television or Bunim-Murray Productions, who produce the show. They’re confident that the new season – starring both Paris and Nicole – will be picked up by another network.
That way, at least the viewing public won’t be deprived of their weekly fix of watching two bumbling airheads being obnoxious and stupid to confused yokels.
