Smashing up subordinates with a telephone in New York is the new black, from the looks of things. First Russell Crowe went medieval with a telephone and now, allegedly, so has Naomi Campbell.
Naomi Campbell was charged with assault yesterday, after apparently hurling a mobile phone at the back of her housekeeper’s head, causing an injury that needed four stitches. It’s unclear whether or not Naomi Campbell added a few Russell Crowe-style flourishes to the reported attack, like throwing a vase or standing in an elaborate karate stance. Either way, Naomi Campbell now faces up to seven years in jail.
Naomi Campbell is one of the world’s most recognisable faces. And,
unlike many supermodels, Naomi Campbell doesn’t just swan up and down
catwalks wearing fancy clothes; she’s also done some lesbian larking
with Madonna in the Sex book and released a string of staggeringly bad
– yet inexplicably popular in Japan – singles such as La La La Love
Song. But more than that, Naomi Campbell has a reputation as being a wee bit vicious.
Almost a year ago, a former PA of Naomi Campbell claimed that the supermodel beat her up with a Blackberry,
and there is famous footage of Naomi lashing out at a passenger on an
areoplane. And now trouble has raised its head once again – Naomi
Campbell was yesterday arrested and charged with second degree assault after it
was claimed she threw a mobile phone at her housekeeper Ana Scolavino‘s
head in an angry fit. According to Reuters:
Campbell…
was fingerprinted and photographed at a police station and arrived at
the State courthouse ahead of her arraignment wearing a black baseball
hat, a white fur poncho and sunglasses. Her hands were cuffed behind
her back.
Those working for Naomi Campbell are denying the charges, with agent Amanda Silverman saying:
"We believe this is a case of retaliation, because Naomi had fired her
housekeeper earlier this morning. We are confident the courts will see
it the same way."
Naomi Campbell’s lawyer David Breitbart also claims that Scolavino’s injury was self-inflicted.
It all just goes to show what a trend-setter Russell Crowe is. He was doing the phone-throwing assault thing way back in June 2005. Which means – according to our giant future-predicting super-computer – Naomi Campbell is due to make a grovelling apology on David Letterman and then father a child. Our computer is never wrong.
