Aphex Twin is something of an enigma. We’ve witnessed him in the flesh, being stretchered off during a DJ set which saw him downing a bottle of bad looking booze and falling from some curtains he’d climbed after playing Beastie Boys records – backwards. Then there’s the whole business of owning a tank and never releasing any records.
However, the latter is could be about to change as rumours abound that there’s a new Aphex Twin record in the pipeline.
Of course, only an idiot would hold their breath whilst waiting for release. In fact, we don’t know why anyone would hold their breath waiting for anything, unless you were waiting for someone to rescue you from a sunken ship.
Details are vague and there’s no release date confirmed, but the word on the street is that Warp have snagged Richard D. James for another album.
The last LP proper was nearly a decade ago with the occasionally baffling ‘Drukqs’ album. We can only hope that any new work will see Aphex treading the fine-line of playful and brutal… but you can never tell.
He’ll probably release an album of rockabilly covers under yet another daft monicker like [Hangautable Fk./{3} Socket^_^ Man] or Shtimply Fotfoy or something.
If you want some Aphex Twin kicks and can’t/won’t wait for the new album, then he’ll be performing a DJ set on September 26th in Ibiza as part of the We Love Space series. Click here for more on that.
