As far as the music industry is concerned, twerking is the name of the game these days. So what do you do when you’re a female popstar that just can’t bring herself to jiggle the jelly? You make like Lily Allen and point out exactly how ridiculous the whole thing is.
I’m no expert, but if you look at Lily’s new video for ‘Hard Out Here’, it looks like she might have ?a bone or two to pick with the music biz. The most subtle clue being a set of foil balloons spelling out the phrase ‘Lily Allen Has A Baggy Pussy’. Genitalia-themed balloons – they’re taking over Beats headphones and strippers as the must-have video prop.
She’s had two kids, there’s no shame in that. Besides, taking the piss out of Robin Thicke can never be a bad move.
?Since Weird Al’s been quiet for a few years, the world has been sorely lacking a good pop culture spoof, so it’s good of Lily Allen to bring herself out of retirement and pick up the slack.
‘Hard Out Here’ starts off with Lily being laid out on an operating table getting liposuction while her ‘manager’ talks about how much she’s let herself go after squeezing out two sprogs. All this leads on to Lily being ‘forced’ in to making a video that looks just like what all the other kids are doing these days, complete with champagne showers and seductively eating bananas. Has Miley done that yet? She must be kicking herself.
As far as the music goes, it’s clever and controversial Lily at her best. It’s not often you find lyrics like…
Forget your balls, and grow a pair of tits /?It’s hard, it’s hard /?It’s hard out here for a bitch this hard
…and actually think that they improve the song.?The entire thing is meant to be a scathing look at the way women are mistreated in the music industry and made to look like nothing more than sex objects. Some would argue that combating misogyny by filling an entire video full of half-naked women pouring champagne over their asses may be sending out a mixed message.
It should be half-naked men pouring champagne over their asses in the name of gender equality. Anyway, judge for yourself below.
Welcome back Lily, keep doing what you’re doing.
