Daniel Craig must be regretting his decision to be the new James Bond.
Since being chosen to be the new James Bond, he’s faced a barrage of criticism. People (not us) laughed at his confused, monosyllabic performance at the unveiling 007 press conference. People (not us) tried to poke into his private life, and his alleged affair with Sienna Miller. People (OK, us) keep comparing him to Timothy Dalton.
And now Daniel Craig is being ridiculed again. Why? Because the new James Bond says that he hates handguns.
Daniel Craig (DVDs) will be the sixth James Bond, and his appointment as 007
is said to signify a return to a grittier, more realistic Bond after
the Pierce Brosnan/invisible car/space laser years. Whether or not
audiences will miss all Brosnan’s implausible pizazz remains to be seen, but
at the moment Daniel Craig has a lot of work to do to win over the
doubters. Take this recent innocuous – and fairly sensible – Daniel
Craig comment about handguns:
"I hate handguns. Handguns are used to shoot people and as long as they
are around people will shoot each other. That’s a simple fact. I’ve
seen a bullet wound and it was a mess. Bullets have a nasty habit of
finding their target and that’s what’s scary about them."
Now, despite pointing out fairly accurately that guns can kill people, Craig’s now being labelled by parts of the press as Tame Bond – a nickname that he can put in the cupboard along with the hilarious James Blond and James Bland. Some messageboards are already starting to fill up with comments calling Craig a "crazy liberal."
What do you think? Should Daniel Craig be playing Bond if he hates handguns, or do you think it doesn’t matter? Maybe Craig should be forced to shoot at least one person before he starts filming. Leave your comments below.

I don’t like guns, says new James Bond – Telegraph
[story by Stuart Heritage]
Susan says
The whole Daniel Craig, Bond is a joke. He hates guns and martini’s so why is he Bond. Brosnan wanted to another Bond and the powers to be said no way and treated him badly. Craig is getting the backlash from all that. I personally am planning on skipping Casino Royale for that reason.
James says
Who cares? You see, no matter what Daniel says IN REAL LIFE, it doesn’t really matter. Do you know why? Because he’s an ACTOR. And actors play ROLES in FILMS. Bond is a role. I for one am interested to see what he can make of it. Brosnan brought an interesting take to the James Bond role, but he’s pretty old now and playing a younger bond would have looked stupid. Imagine the ridicule if they’d done that!
Rob says
I agree with James. The actor who plays Bond isn’t cast because he’s like James Bond in real life, in the same way the actor who plays Superman isn’t cast because he can fly in real life.
For the record, Roger Moore hated guns and always blinked when he fired one. He’s also on record as saying he is a massive coward.
I think Daniel Craig’ll be pretty good. But then again, I liked Timothy Dalton.
Molly says
It doesn’t matter. Craig can’t walk in Brosnan’s footsteps anyway. It’s a shame that the producers ousted Pierce- without him the franchise would be dead.
James says
I’m sure as a professional actor Daniel won’t just try to “be Brosnan”. What’s the point of that? He’ll take the role and make it his own. In a way he’s very lucky because the film is going to be way back when Bond was younger. Who know’s what Bond was like then? Brosnan had his time, he did it well, remember his films for what they were, but lets move on eh? Maybe actually see the new movie before judging it??

Don’t worry guys, Susan’s obviously one of those dotty old women who shout and wave their handbags at soap stars yelling “You’re a MURDERER!”

Daniel craig is a hypocritical joke. If I really hated guns, then it would be against my morals to be in any film that depicted gun violence. Last time I checked, that;s the opposite of what he does.
James says
Don’t be stupid. He’s acting in a film. Not selling arms to third world militas.
