When you play the female lead in the sixth and ninth biggest-grossing films ever, and your life is constantly plagued by fanboys coming up to you and asking obscure questions about every aspect of superhero life, you’d want to keep slightly ahead of the game.
That evidently never occurred to Spiderman star Kirsten Dunst who, while promoting her new flick Elizabethtown, didn’t just blurt out the actors who were playing the villains in Spiderman 3, she actually managed to get them wrong as well.
Ditsy old Kirsten Dunst (DVDs), who plays Mary Jane in the Spiderman films let slip to Zap2it:
"We have really great people though as the villains in this film,
Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace – Venom and Sandman. Maybe I
wasn’t supposed to say that."
Luckily,
another journalist present realised that Dunst had probably got the
actors the wrong way round. Kirsten had a quick think before conceding,
"It’s the other way around. You’re right."
Kirsten hasn’t yet seen a script for Spiderman 3 – which starts filming in January –
"But I know the general story. There’s a lot that they’re trying to fit into this one."
So the villains in Spiderman 3 will be Sandman and Venom. Sandman,
we’ll admit, sounds a bit rubbish. He’s a criminal – get this – made
out of sand. We’re not sure what use this super-power actually is –
maybe spoiling family picnics or something – but surely his enemy isn’t
Spiderman, it’s a stiff breeze.
Venom, on the other hand, is an alien that pretends to be
Spiderman’s costume before taking over the body of an embittered
journalist. Come on, we’ve all been there.
Which is all well and good, but we’re far more excited by rumours that Larry David is going to have a part in Spiderman 3.
