On one hand, maids are brilliant – they do all the stuff around the house for you, leaving you to tit around on your Xbox. But when maids go bad they can pinch all your stuff, as Robert De Niro discovered.
A maid of De Niro’s wife Grace Hightower is facing up to three years in prison after admitting stealing clothes, credit cards and jewellery from several homes around New York in court. Now, if she’d have somehow found her way to finding and destroying every single of Robert De Niro’s movie Hide And Seek instead, we’re certain that the punishment would have been much less severe.
Polish-born Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz admits that she went on the
nick in the homes of her employers, who include Robert De Niro’s (DVDs) wife
Grace Hightower, actress Candice Bergen and socialite Renee Rockefella.
Lucyna admitted charges of theft, forgery and identity theft in a plea
deal which has reduced her sentence from a maximum of 15 years to a
maximum of three.
But what’s the problem? We’ve all helped ourselves to a few office
supplies now and again, haven’t we? Don’t deny it – we saw you slip
that printer cartridge into your handbag last week, missy. Sadly,
Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz had set her sights a little higher than a
handful of paperclips and a florescent marker pen. From Grace Hightower
alone, Lucyna took a pair of $95,500 earrings. She also snuck an
employer’s credit card to buy some fancy gear at a luxury clothes store
and, oddly, used the social security number of a 13-year-old girl to
try and get herself a job.
However, it seems as if Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz saw herself as a
kind of Robin Hood figure. But, instead of stealing from the rich and
giving to the poor, she just stole from people who she thought were
arseholes. Court documents state that Lucyna Turyk-Wawrynowicz only
pinched stuff from Grace Hightower because:
"If she treated me better, with more respect, I probably
wouldn’t have done this. I didn’t steal from Isabella Rossellini
because she treated me well. I only stole from people who didn’t treat
me with respect."
