Bruce Forsyth is a hecklerspray hero. When you turn on your TV, you may see a wizened old man making plebs laugh with his bad wigs and big chin, but we see someone else entirely.
He is a man who has been famous for 66 years, is best friends with James Bond and hosted the best-ever episode of Have I Got News For You.
He was the best presenter of The Generation Game, too. Watch an episode with Bruce hosting, completely at ease with all his guests, and then watch Jim Davidson in the same format, looking awkward, fighting all his natural instincts to tell offensive jokes about black people.
He’s also married to Miss World, which is no mean feat at all. And he’s the inventor of a new entertainment genre called ‘Trap‘ which is half tap dance and half rap, and is so spectacularly bad – like watching a million cars crash into each other and exploding in slow motion – that it actually makes you like the guy even more.
And now he’s being honoured by the Palladium theatre in London, who have unveiled a bust of him to commemorate his long career. The theatre is where he hosted his most famous show, Sunday Night At The London Palladium, and is, according to Bruce "just so special".
Unbelievably, Forsyth has not yet been given a knighthood. Why is this? Queen Elizabeth, if you’re reading, sort it out. Make him Sir Bruce.
The guy is the anti-Vernon Kaye. Mr Forsyth, we salute you!
