Just as everyone knows where they were when 9/11 happened and when Britney Spears cut her hair off, everyone remembers where they were when JFK was shot – we do, we weren’t even born because it happened, like, a million years ago Grandpa.
But now that a brand new piece of footage has been found of John F Kennedy’s final motorcade, it actually feels like we were actually there. And what a day it was – JFK’s jacked was slightly rumpled, Jackie Kennedy looked happy, everything was totally silent and we appeared to black out 90 seconds before John F Kennedy was actually shot. But that’s what happens when you’ve only got a 40-second memory we guess.
Over the course of the 44 years since he was fatally shot in Dallas, the emotion of JFK’s death has become confused. Now the term ‘JFK’ is only used in phrases like "DMX shouted at the crew on a flight from JFK airport? What a tit" or "Did you see World Trade Centre? It was rubbish, even worse than JFK" – but it’s hoped that a newly-discovered 40-second film of JFK’s final motorcade will restore some of the original feeling to the thought. Except that it ends 90 seconds before JFK got shot. And it’s entirely silent.
Amateur photographer George Jefferies shot the JFK footage on November 22 1963 and then forgot about it until his son-in-law persuaded him to make it public. And now the conspiracy theorists can really get busy, as BBC News reports:
The film shows the president’s coat bunched up on his back – a detail some will see as evidence that the bullet wounds on the president’s body did not match those on his jacket. The film also shows "the clearest, best film of Jackie in the motorcade", says Mr Mack. Also visible is secret service agent Clint Hill, riding on the back of the car. After the shots were fired, Mr Hill jumped onto the back of the vehicle and drove with it to the hospital.
What can it all mean? If JFK’s jacket was riding up, then that could seen to be proof that more than one gunman killed him, since the matching of the holes in his jacket and shirt have long been a bone of contention for the JFK theorists. Or it’s proof that – and this is where we’re really through the looking glass – John F Kennedy was moving about a bit and his jacket got a bit bunched.
Or it’s neither and we should get back to reporting something that didn’t happen in the same year that Please Please Me came out like we’re supposed to.

I don’t trust that film – I’ve watched it loads and I didn’t see Kevin Costner once

I was 2 and a half when Kennedy died. For the longest time I’d look at an American flag, my country’s flag, and think how it was somehow John Kennedy’s flag. That , no doubt cause I watched the funeral at a very impressionable age. I was in grade school when I found out Robert Kennedy was shot and I remember watching his and Martin Luther King’s funerals that year. I was swimming in my backyard one foot pool on the day they landed on the Moon and I collected newspaper articles. No there was no internet for the common folks yet. I was in my systems engineering class when the Professor talked about the challenger shuttle craft disaster. I was working at a church when 911 happened.
I suspect by next week I’ll forget Britney shaved her head and where I was. She could be giving a cry for help so I hope she finds peace.
BUT this is not on the level of a terrorist act or the death of a president.
