As if Brad Pitt didn't have enough on his plate – what with trying to impress Angelina Jolie, preparing for fatherhood and starring in a bunch of films that were never quite as good as you'd have expected.
Now Brad Pitt is also trying to save New Orleans, by launching a competition to find some environmentally-sound designs to rebuild the flood-ravaged neighbourhoods of the city. And if any of the designs happen to spell out 'Hey Jen! Stick this up your twisted Bermuda Triangle!' across the rooftops so that Pitt can taunt Aniston on Google Earth, then they just might be favoured more.
Brad Pitt sure does love architecture, which is just as well as he's seen enough of it lately. Brad studied the design of the modern beach houses when he was in Malibu with Jennifer Aniston, he's seen the splendour of St Paul's Cathedral in London and he's recently been experiencing the unique cabbage-stink of 1970's Paris towerblocks with Angelina Jolie. Add this to the murmurs of a forthcoming Pitt-designed Las Vegas casino, and you get the impression that Brad Pitt knows his stuff.
So Brad Pitt was a natural choice to team up with environmental group Global Green USA to launch a competition to find green designs to help rebuild the parts of New Orleans worst affected by Hurricane Katrina. In a statement, Brad Pitt said:
"This competition asks the question, can this catastrophe be turned into an opportunity? Can we create for these neighbourhoods and its families something even better than they had before? We encourage anyone with an idea to get involved… Honouring the traditions of this unique city and the voice of its residents, our goal is to create designs – and ideally built projects – which are stable, beautiful, sustainable and affordable."
Brad Pitt is currently shacked up in Namibia awaiting the birth of his baby with Angelina Jolie – and possibly seething about the way that Tom Cruise gave his kid a stupider name than he was planning – but come the summer, Brad will be back in New Orleans with local leaders and a panel or architects to help choose a winner. And who knows – in 2010, there might be the inaugural New New Orleans parade down Brad Pitt Avenue, crossing into Please Don't Mention Troy Boulevard.
