Casino Royale has had an undoubtedly shaky conception – producers couldn’t find anyone to be in it, and then the new James Bond got beaten up by a henchman and forgot how to drive his car properly.
So the James Bond producers did the only thing they could – they sent a bunch of journalists over to the Bahamas, where Casino Royale is being filmed – and treated them extra nice so they’d stop being horrible about James Bond. They even got new James Bond Daniel Craig in on the act, to be all charming and stuff.
It could be argued that James Bond (DVDs) producers fluffed the handover
once they decided that Pierce Brosnan was too old and mullety to play
James Bond any more. After a drawn out selection process, Daniel Craig was chosen to be James Bond in Casino Royale – and then there was another drawn-out selection for the Bond villain and the Bond girl.
Then, once all the Casino Royale pieces were in place, Daniel Craig apparently had his teeth punched out by a mental henchman, and the Internet decided that Daniel would be a crap James Bond.
Websites were set up telling James Bond fans to boycott Casino Royale.
That’s why the producers arranged the latest junket to the Bahamas. And
that’s also presumably why Daniel Craig has promised to do something
that’s physically impossible as James Bond. He told Reuters:
"I’ve been trying to give 110 percent from the beginning and maybe
after that (the criticism), I was trying to give 115 percent. But I mean, I’m giving everything I can."
Daniel also countered the barrage of criticism that he’s been getting – partly for getting injured so easily, and partly because his hair is a different colour to Timothy Dalton:
"You go mad if you believe any of it. You can’t believe the good stuff. You can’t believe
the bad stuff. You kind of just take it in. But I’m focused on making
this film."
Extra
TV has a video of the Casino Royale set online and, shrieking woman presenter aside, we can
tell you that the video features Daniel Craig sort of jumping off quite a low roof at one
point. It’s eye-searing excitement like this that will ensure Daniel’s
James Bond reputation will last forever. One way or the other.
Quickly – What do you think? Daniel Craig, James Bond, Casino Royale – great or arse? Comments below, please…

Blond Bond stirred by criticism, but not shaken – Reuters
[story by Stuart Heritage]
Arch says
Great of course. Why are people taking notice of a bunch of whiney morons who seem to think that the best way to judge a film is by never seeing it?
Spot on, by the way, by pointing out that Brosnan was too “old and mullety”. But you missed out “fat and rubbish”.
Susan says
It’s because of the way Brosnan was dumped that I refuse to see Casino Royale!
Kitn says
BOYCOTT CASINO ROYALE! We want Pierce Back!
“As someone who has been a lifelong Bond fan and an
admirer of the humanitarian work and dignified bearing
of former Bonds Pierce Brosnan, Roger Moore and Sean
Connery, I believe that Daniel Craig has disgraced
himself with his brusque remarks.
“It only goes further to support the position held by
many fans that Daniel Craig has neither the class
required for the role of Bond, nor the character to be
the caretaker of such a beloved and iconic movie hero.
“Our only hope is that Bond fans who have been on the
fence about Mr. Craig will now realize that we who
were unhappy with him from day one were right all
along.”
Rob says
Move on! Grow up! Things change. And remarks that someone happens to make have no bearing on their performance in the film. How can anyone honestly say he’ll be rubbish until they’ve actually seen the film?
And come on – Brosnan was pretty terrible.
James says
Have just watched the trailer for Casino Royale, and it confirms the fact that Daniel Craig was the worst possible choice to play James Bond.
Craig’s performance appears very wooden and one dimensional.
Craig does not look Bondian in the least. And the Casino Royale script spits all over the once proud history of the Bond franchise.
Pierce Brosnan was the best Bond since Sean Connery, and Brosnan should have been brought back for another Bond film!
Bondgirl says
Craig will make a great Bond. Even Pierce supported Craig so those jokers who spend all their time crying over Brosnan need to see the light and stop their stupid moaning.
Oh, expect a co-ordinated whine-and-moan binge from that craigisntbond bunch…that’s all they ever do, not that it will bring back pierce in either his lifetime or theirs.
Pandora says
I had apprehensions at first but after viewing the trailer on aol, I’m now quite convinced I’d like to see the film. I’ve seen all the Bond films since 1995 and although this guy is new, and a marked departure from previous Bonds, I see no reason to ridicule him as others do in their efforts to get Pierce back. I liked Pierce, but his last movie was rather bad. I’m at least willing to see Casino Royale to have a better opinion of both Craig and how the Bond franchise in general develops from this point on. Oh, and a big shout to Madds, he’s hot!
Edward Lawrence says
I can’t wait to see this film. The trailer is great, the Bond girls are hot and Daniel Craig will make a great Bond.
I found this on the moviefone message board, so I’ll post it here.
Was Pierce Brosnan fired?
—–
No, he came to the end of his contract – 3 films (GE, TND, TWINE) and an option of a 4th (DAD).
Daniel Craig is scared of guns, does this mean he won’t be using one?
—–
For one, he is not “scared of guns” he just doesn’t like them, same as Roger Moore and other action stars who use guns in their films. Apparently James Bond will be packing a Walther PPK or a P99 in the movie. (I am not a gun expert, so I can’t give you any info about the guns)
Can Craig drive stick (manual cars)?
—–
Yes, he holds a full UK Drivers Licence “That story about the stick shift was ludicrous,” adds Barbara Broccoli, who produces the Bond franchise with half brother Michael G. Wilson. “Everybody drives a stick in England. You have to be able to in order to get an unrestricted license over there.”
Did Craig get 2 teeth knocked out in a fight scene?
—–
No, a crown, aka a cap, came loose during the shoot “No, his teeth didn’t get knocked out, What happened was that one of his caps came loose while we were filming in Prague. A local dentist came to the set, put a bit of glue on it, and that was that. The whole thing took 10 minutes.” Martin Campbell
Did Craig get heat-rash?
—–
No, whilst it is true that Daniel Craig did get sun-burnt, it was also true that practically everybody on the shoot got sun-burnt – Craig did not get heat rash and the production wasn’t stopped for any length of time
Is this a prequel?
—–
The film isn’t a prequel in the sense that is set in the time period before Dr. No – It is very much set in the present. The beginning of the film is shows Bond when he has just received Double-0 status, the rest of the film will be Bond’s first mission as a “Double-O Agent”
Is this film Bond Begins?
—–
Batman begins is separate from the Batman series started by Tim Burton – just as this film is looking to be separate than the Bond films before it, a reboot/rehash or whatever you want to call it. Everything else should be completely different than the Batman film.
Is this a remake of the 60s James Bond spoof?
—–
No, the spoof was, very loosely, based on the same source material by Ian Fleming, but this is film is more in-line with the Dr. No/FRWL sort of film and far from spoof.
Why is Dench playing M if this is in Bonds early career?
—–
Because, as stated earlier, this is separate from the past Bonds, so it doesn’t matter if Bond has a female boss – lets just say when Bond met her in this time line – Is different than when we saw Brosnan’s Bond meeting her in GoldenEye.
When is this film set?
—–
The film is set in the present day, early 21st Century. The film is not going back to the 60s.
If this shows one of Bond’s first missions as a 00 agent, then why is Leiter in the film?
—–
Because Bond first met Felix Leiter in Casino Royale, the 1953 book. While it is true that in the film series Bond meets Leiter in Dr. No, in the book series Leiter had already been in several missions with Bond – going as far as loosing an arm and a leg in Live and Let Die (which was seen in the film License to kill)
Are Q or Miss Moneypenny in this film – and if so, whos playing them?
—–
Unfortunately neither Q or Moneypenny are in this film – in the book Moneypenny is only shown very breifly and Q is not mentioned at all, though “Q” Branch is mentioned.
Where is this film being shot?
—–
Shooting locations include the Bahamas, Italy, the Czech Republic and the UK http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/locations
Will the film be set in France (Royale-les-Eaux)
—–
Royale-les-Eaux is a fictional town in the Bond universe near Montrieul in N.E. France and the setting for Casino Royale in the book. In the film the casino has moved to Montenegro.
Anywhere else?
—-
Venice and Lake Como in Italy, Miami in Florida USA, London in the UK, Madagascar and The Bahamas.
When will we be seeing a trailer?
—–
The trailer is on Moviefone, and you can also see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CLLCqg8_LA
Why isn’t Quentin Tarantino directing this film?
—–
Tarantino was never considered for director, also not being a member of the Directors Guild of America he is unable to work with the big movie companies, including MGM and Sony.
Is it fact or rumour that Samantha Bond will be playing a completely different character in CR?
—–
This is a rumour, so far Samantha Bond has not been announced as having a part in this movie.
Will SPECTRE be in this movie?
—–
SPECTRE wasn’t in the book and wont be in the movie. The Russian organisation in the book was SMERSH – They won’t be in the film either, being a cold war group.
Will a video game version of the film be made?
—–
A videogame was in production, being made by the same makes of Brosnan’s Bond games, EA Games. The Bond was to be in Daniel Craig’s likeness – According to CommanderBond.net the game has been shelved.
Where can we find pictures of what the main characters look like?
—
Felix Leiter, Rene Mathis, Le Chiffre, Valenka, Dimitrios would be a big help.
—–
All character photos are on the Official Casino Royale website [http://www.CasinoRoyaleMovie.com]
Is it true the Bond will be driving the new Aston Martin V8 Vantage, or a DB5 like in the trailer?
—–
Bond will be driving the Aston Martin DB5, but instead of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage he will be driving the new Aston Martin DBS – designed especially for Casino Royale
Simon says
I’ve seen the film only recently and it is absolutely shocking. Daniel Craig is totally lost in the part, the script is dire, the female is bloody awful and the plot is predictable. How worse can it be?
I tried it out tonight because I was at a loose end but actually just stopped it in it’s last 20 minutes in preference to wondering if I’m the only one who thought it was absolute shite and coming online.
Really very very bad in every way……
David says
I thought Casino Royale would be a big bust since Pierce Brosnan wasn’t in it but i think Daniel Craig is the best Bond yet.
