We all know that The Da Vinci Code – the book that every single commuter on the face of the planet must compulsory read – is being turned into a movie, to satisfy all the religious sceptics who can’t actually read.
But what about children, or people with microscopic attention plans? How will their A.D.D-raddled brains be able to enjoy the subtle intricacies of The Da Vinci Code? Luckily, Sony and 2K Games are teaming up to bring you The Da Vinci Code: The Game.
The book of The Da Vinci Code (Books) – written by Dan Brown – has sold around
38 million copies. That means that there are 38 million people around
the world who are convinced that they are the biggest religious experts
on the face of the planet.
By the middle of next year, The Da Vinci Code will be thrown into
cinemas as a Ron Howard directed, Tom Hanks starring movie, so that fat
popcorn-chewing plebs can call themselves religious experts, too. And
with every big-budget movie comes the video game adaptation. Sony and
2K Games have announced a collaboration to bring The Da Vinci Code to
the planet’s consoles.
Now, we know what we’d like to see in a Da Vinci Code game. It’d be
exactly the same as Sonic The Hedgehog, but you’d be a sassy,
finger-snapping detective played by Tom Hanks instead of a blue
hedgehog, Audrey Tatou would be the slightly less-good sidekick who can
spin her tail around and fly, and the game would involve running round
collecting pages of the bible while you kill bad monks by jumping on
their heads. And Dr Robotnik would be Jesus. Or something.
But, no. That’s not going to happen. Sony and 2K instead promise us
that The Da Vinci Code game will be a "feature-oriented suspense
title," whatever that involves. Probably a lot of walking around
looking at vases. 2K Games Managing Director Christoph Hartmann says:
“We are thrilled to work with Sony Pictures on one of its most
anticipated film properties. The Da Vinci Code is exactly the type of high-calibre licensed
property 2K Games looks for when developing movie-based titles.”
Expect your tiny relatives to be lecturing you on the convolutions of the Gnostic gospels when the Da Vinci Code game is released next year.
