It’s been a while since a rapper has got shot. We were starting to worry that the whole trend had died out.
But it looks like our fears were unfounded. This time, it was Cam’ron on the receiving end of a bullet, as he attempted to stop thieves from carjacking his trademark Lamborghini in Washington DC early Sunday morning.
It’s not a new thing for rappers to get shot. Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls have both been killed in shootings, 50 Cent claims to have been shot nine times and Suge Knight may have possibly shot himself during a party for the MTV Music Video Awards this year. It was always going to be a matter of time before another rapper got in on the act.
New York rapper Cam’ron (CDs) was driving between Washington clubs in his blue Lamborghini at
around 2.30am yesterday when he was approached by three unknown gunmen.
An eyewitness is reported as saying:
"They were after that car. Cam refused to give it up and attempted to drive away and they shot up the car."
Despite being shot in both arms, Cam’ron managed to drive away from the would-be carjackers. And on his
emergence from Howard University Hospital yesterday, the flamboyant rapper
managed to stay staggeringly on-message:
"It was a sloppy job on
their part. They didn’t get anything. I still got my car and my
jewellery… I got shot three times and my album comes out Nov. 22. We
love Howard."
