Someone might need to phone a doctor for Julianne Hough, because it appears that she had some kind of brain aneurysm that convinced her blackface was a good idea.?
Good friends will agree to doing an ‘Orange Is The New Black’ themed group costume. Best friends will tap you on the shoulder before you leave the house and hand you a wet wipe, vowing to never tell anyone what you were about to do. I hate to break it to you Julianne, but it looks like you have some shitty besties.
The Rock Of Ages star showed up to a Casamigos Tequila-sponsored Halloween party dressed as Suzanne ‘Crazy Eyes’ Warren from everybody’s favourite Netflix-based prison comedy-drama. If you don’t watch the show, let’s pause for a little context. This is Crazy Eyes:
And this is how an adult woman in 21st Century America decided to emulate her:
?Well, shit. Obviously Julianne thought that the twisty-hair, prison scrubs AND HUGE EFFING NAME TAG weren’t enough of a clue for her fellow party-goers, and decided that smothering her face in Nutella would really help people figure out her costume.
After her publicist presumably had a fairly serious stroke, Julianne quickly issued an apology via Twitter that went a little something like this:
“I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.” – @JulianneHough
What a shame she couldn’t figure that out before she left the house, she’d still be known as that blonde one that was doing Ryan Seacrest instead of that one that thought blacking up was still something that decent human beings did.
It’s easy to get bogged down in stereotypes and appropriation and all that heavy stuff, but at the end of the day I think we can all agree with Rob Delaney’s view on the matter.
I'm more upset that Julianne Hough dressed like a good actress.
