Everyone has an awkward break-up story to tell, where they've lacked the courage to end it with someone they've never really loved, and settled for a lifetime of loveless guilt-ridden misery instead. Or perhaps that's just us.
If only there was a way that, say, the woman who played the bitchy one from Beverly Hills 90210 and the rubbish one in Charmed could kick our flaky, cowardly arses into gear and give us the confidence to dump anyone we like for failing to reach our abnormally high standards time and time again. What's that? Shannen Doherty is planning on doing that very thing, in her new TV show Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty? That's probably quite good news.
For too long, Shannen Doherty has been content to follow the pack. When other failed TV stars with notorious prima donna reputations have been content to limp into a string of badly-plotted, low budget erotic thrillers, Shannen Doherty did exactly the same thing. And when Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton both had car crashes, Shannen Doherty got her car meekly hit by a Ford Mustang as well.
But no Shannen Doherty is walking her own path, by making a TV show – Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty – to help stupid people break up with whoever they're too cowardly to send a 'move ur stuff out of my house by 2nite u cheetin bitch' text message to. And Shannen Doherty knows all about breaking up with people – she's already broken up with a couple of husbands, all kinds of boyfriends and probably one or two plastic surgeons. Speaking about Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty, where she helps lovers, friends and roommates end things, Shannen said:
"A lot of it is a matter of guilt or feeling that attachment or the fear of being alone or all these sort of different emotional things that go into a breakup that sometimes it's hard for somebody."
And, as a sort of related anecdote, Shannen Doherty spoke of the time that she was so lousy at breaking up with someone that she had to get her Dad in to help her out:
"Every time I tried to break up with him, it sort of got a little bit emotional and we would stay together. My dad went and got my stuff out of the house, and said, `That's enough. You guys don't belong together anymore,' and it really helped."
Which sort of begs the question – if Shannen Doherty is so rubbish at breaking up with someone just because "it sort of got a little bit emotional," then won't Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty be a giant failure? What's the betting of Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty being replaced with Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty's Dad before the month is out?
