Mel Gibson and the Jews have had a testy relationship since The Passion Of The Christ was accused of anti-Semitism. Now Mel Gibson is getting back into the ring to make a TV series about the Holocaust.
All of which is controversial enough, but then add Mel Gibson’s Dad – Hutton Gibson – to the mix, and we have ourselves a spectacularly delicate situation. Hutton Gibson, you see, isn’t the biggest fan of the Jews, and doesn’t really think the Holocaust happened. Wow, and you thought your Dad was embarrassing.
It’s always healthy for you to do things that your parents
disapprove of – most people can remember their folks complaining that
all the music on Top Of The Pops these days is just bang bang bang. But
Mel Gibson (DVDs) has to try a little harder to upset his parents – he has to
make a TV show all about the Holocaust to ruffle his Holocaust-denying
Dad. According to The Independent:
ABC confirmed that it was working with Con Artists Production, headed
by Mr Gibson, to produce a made-for-television epic based on the
wartime experiences of Flory van Beek, a Jew who was sheltered from the
Nazis in the Netherlands by her non-Jewish boyfriend and neighbours.
Even
though ABC hasn’t fully committed to Mel Gibson’s Holocaust show – and, even
if it does, it might not see the light of day for two years or so – it
has still caused a big heap of Jews to raise their eyebrows at the
project. And most of their suspicion comes from an outburst by Hutton
Gibson, the father of Mel. Last year, just before the release of
Passion Of The Christ: Armed And Fabulous – at the height of the
charges that the movie was anti-Semitic, Hutton gave an radio interview
where he said of the Jews:
"They’re after one world
religion and one world government. That’s why they’ve attacked the
Catholic Church so strongly, to ultimately take control over it by
their doctrine… They claimed that there were
6.2 million [Jews] in
Poland before the war, and they claimed after the war there were
200,000 – therefore he must have killed 6 million of them. They simply
got up and left! They were all over the Bronx and Brooklyn
and Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles."
First Michael Jackson calling Jews "leeches" and now this. Dr Rafael
Medoff, who runs a Holocaust studies institute in Pennsylvania, is
saying that the new production would be a "cause for concern" unless
Mel Gibson publicly distances himself from his father. Mel Gibson, meanwhile, has
attempted to defuse the controversy by speaking in really short
sentences:
"Yes, of course. Atrocities happened. War is horrible. The Second World
War killed tens of millions of people. Some of them Jews in
concentration camps."

I fear that poor Mel is selling out to the jews.
The guy can’t win. He’s called an anti-semite because of The Passion. They don’t trust him with a “holocaust” project.
They (jews) just want their asses kissed.
Frank says
If I were an Arab (which I am not ;), and a Jewish producer decided to make an Arab history movie, I’d be a little suspicious. Mel Gibson has no business making a Jewish themed movies. Not after his dad openly denied Holocoast ever happened, not after “Passion”.
Nanette says
Hey…. the jews will LOVE this mini-series.
As long as their “holocaust” stays in the public eye (rammed down people’s throats), they’re happy.
Shame on Mel. He ought to concentrate on the occupation of Palestine as an alternative.
GRC says
Why have you put holocaust in inverted commas Nanette?
James says
In answer to GRC. it’s because she’s been listening far too closely to Mel’s dad.
Why has Mel got no business making a Jewish themed movie? Just because he made The Passion?? Really. Huh. There’s me thinking The Passion merely reflected what happened. At least with respect to who was responsible for Jesus being arrested etc etc. Even the last Pope endoresed it with the immortal words “It is as it was”.
Of course he can make this movie or mini serise. Maybe we should check it out before passing judgement?? I know I will.
Oh and before I forget. People, don’t bother trying to draw me into an argument about what exactly happened 2000 years ago based on this scripture verses that scripture and the Jews weren’t responsible blah blah blah because I’m not interested in any one sided opinion driven blatantly dogmatic arguments. Just thought I’d head that one off before it started. Cheers.

Another movie where Gibson can show entrails running out. That is really what he likes to film and not so much the subject.
