On Monday night Grey's Anatomy won a Golden Globe for Best TV Drama Series, leaving the Grey's Anatomy cast to celebrate the win the only way they know how: publicly piling into each other about how many gay slurs they all think they know.
Even though it happened three months ago, the now-legendary Grey's Anatomy actor-fight is still causing all kinds of headaches for everyone involved. The latest twist is that Isaiah Washington has denied ever calling TR Knight a "faggot," causing everyone else from Grey's Anatomy to immediately rush to the nearest camera crew and shriek "He bloody well did call TR Knight a faggot! He did!" In sensitive times like these, clearing up a dispute as complex as the Grey's Anatomy cast disagreement needs a steady hand and a calm mind or, failing that, a competition to see who's got the biggest Dad.
As sensible, right-minded human beings we have never watched more than ten minutes of Grey's Anatomy because it's so terrible it makes us want to shoot ourselves. That's not to say it isn't popular, though – Grey's Anatomy wins Golden Globes and People's Choice awards like nobody's business – but we reason why bother watching Grey's Anatomy when reading about how completely dysfunctional the Grey's Anatomy cast is provides us with so much more entertainment.
Until last October, Grey's Anatomy just had a usual boring cast that never did anything exciting, but that all changed when stars Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington were locked in a Grey's Anatomy actor-fight so immense that even second-hand reports of it were 50 times more exciting than anything that had ever happened on the show. Despite Isaiah Washington's eventual apology, the immediate aftermath of the melee saw another Grey's Anatomy actor – TR Knight – announce to the world that he was gay, and that led to speculation that Washington had called him a "faggot" during the bust-up. Oh, and one of the other Grey's Anatomy doctors got engaged, although that's probably not as relevant.
On Golden Globes night, however, Isaiah Washington himself disputed this chain of events. During a press room interview, Washington said this:
"No, I did not call T.R. a faggot. Never happened, never happened."
And that's something that another Grey's Anatomy star – Katherine Heigl – literally shat herself over, as she found an Access Hollywood crew at a Golden Globes after-party just to have a go at Isaiah Washington, as ABC reports:
"I'm going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period," Heigl told "Access Hollywood" at a Golden Globe after-party. "I'm sorry, that did not need to be said. I'm not OK with it." She called the comments "hurtful," characterizing the incident as one that should be handled privately among the show's cast and crew. "I don't think (Washington) means it the way he comes off," Heigl said. "But T.R. is my best friend. … I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings."
And, just like Katherine Heigl, we call our best friend by their initials too. Anyway, just to top things off, TR Knight himself followed up Katherine Heigl's attack by going on the Ellen DeGeneres show on Tuesday just to make sure that Isaiah Washington probably gets the sack for this, saying:
"He referred to me as a faggot. Everyone heard it."
Good, so that's ugly homophobia and ugly racism out of the way, and we're only halfway through the day. This is the closest we've ever got to completing a line of bigot bingo – we just need Mel Gibson to say something dumb about the Jews again in the next few hours and we'll have a full house. That carriage clock is as good as ours we tell you.
