Tomorrow is the X Factor semi-final. In theory, it’s where X Factor gets serious and steely-eyed. In reality, there’ll just be a bunch more awful wailing of aggressively populist wedding reception songs. Hey ho.
As last week, the choice of who gets eliminated from X Factor is completely up to the viewers – the smug, shrieky, stage-managed managers don’t have any say whatsoever. And, once again, each X Factor contestant gets to sing two songs each – so Sharon Osbourne will have less chances to do that screechy voice thing of hers.
But who’s going to be leaving X Factor tomorrow? And what will the contestants sing? We’ve got all the answers in our X Factor semi final elimination betting odds, with help from SportingOdds.com…
Shayne Ward – We can absolutely see through Shayne’s formula now. He
comes onstage, after a humble little VT package, twinkles his eyes,
sings one mindblowingly dull, bland, boring ballad that the elderly
will like, then sings another – semi-ironic – song for the youngsters.
Bland – Million Love Song. Ironic – I Believe In A Thing Called Love.
Bland - Careless Whisper. Ironic – Take Your Mama Out. This week is no
different: Bland – Unchained Melody. Ironic – Don’t Stop Me Now by
Queen. Add a quick exchange with Sharon where they both say
how much they want to dry-hump each other and – bingo – Shayne’s
through to the X Factor final. Current odds – 7/1
Journey South – Journey South are now second favourites to win X
Factor. And we really, really can’t understand why. Honestly. All they
do is punch the air, screw up their faces, mispronounce words and belt
out painfully earnest buskopop. On this week’s X Factor they’ll be
singing You’re In My Heart by Rod Stewart and Let It Be by The Beatles
- replicating the televised Princess Di/George Best funeral cash-in of
last week’s Candle In The Wind with a clever reminder that John Lennon
died 25 years ago. And – you know what – it’ll probably work. Current
odds – 11/2
Brenda Edwards – In the eyes of the public, Brenda is going from
strength to strength. This is for one reason only – she’s picking more
and more populist songs as X Factor goes on. This week she’ll be
singing a song so obvious it’s a surprise that she hasn’t already sung
it – Without You by Harry Nilsson/ Badfinger/Mariah Carey. She’ll be
following it up with Respect by Otis Redding/Aretha Franklin. She’s not
safe by any means, but we’re quietly confident she’ll sneak through
tomorrow. Current odds – 9/4
Andy Abraham – Andy – the one-time favourite sad
binman-turned-singer – has been having a meltdown of late. He’s missed
the start of songs, picked rubbish like Easy Lover (and did a funny
little monkey dance while he sang it) and has installed himself as
favourite to be eliminated from tomorrow’s X Factor. Maybe if he picks
a couple of blinding song choices, he’ll be safe – they’re Lately by
Stevie Wonder and Everything I Do by Byran Adams. Looks like we’ll
saying goodbye to Andy, then. Current odds – 10/11
