Since this series of X Factor started, Robert Allen had been the most forgettable singer by a mile. On Saturday's X Factor, however, Robert Allen pulled a truly barnstorming performance out of the bag – and then got voted out.
In the past Robert Allen had been known as That Hyperactive Wanker, for his annoying habit of hurling himself around the X Factor stage like a man having a fight with himself in a Wild West saloon bar. But on Saturday Robert kept his irritating effervescence in check and did the unthinkable – he somehow made a cloying Michael Jackson ballad sound almost listenable. But it wasn't to be, and Simon Cowell voted Robert off X Factor instead of Eton Road. Goes to show what happens when you listen to Westlife, huh?
But now that Robert Allen has been eliminated from X Factor, which of the five remaining acts is going to win? Here's part one of this week's X Factor betting odds, for Ray Quinn and The MacDonald Brothers…
Ray Quinn – After last week's X Factor, when Ray Quinn found himself in the final sing-off, we were expecting to see a brand new Ray on Saturday; a Ray with more humility and far less lazy, smug, slurred big band nonsense. And what did we get instead? The horrific sight of Ray Quinn – who is approximately 12 years old – singing Living La Vida Loca in an even less convincing way than Ricky Martin managed. Nothing about Ray's X Factor performance was impressive – his vocals sounded lazy and weak next to the prerecorded singing on the backing track, and as for his dancing… let's just say that the day we choose to watch a foetus doing sexy hip-thrusts is the day we check ourselves into the brain hospital for an operation. But at least the good news is that Ray Quinn is now absolute least favourite to win X Factor, although it's generally thought that Ray will go on to have a great career in the West End. Well, those Golf Sale signs won't hold themselves up. Current X Factor betting odds – 33/1
The MacDonald Brothers – OK, a joke's a joke. We dislike Simon Cowell as much as the next man – although compared to Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne the man's a freaking saint – but all the protest voting to keep The MacDonald Brothers on X Factor is starting to become a little bit alarming. And they must be protest votes; we absolutely refuse to believe that there's a single person on the planet who would actually listen to The MacDonald Brothers sing through choice, let alone buy one of their CDs. Look at their performance of Love Is All Around on Saturday's X Factor – it was probably the most monumentally dull thing we think we've ever seen. It had no verve, no personality and no redeeming qualities whatsoever. Aside from the inevitable rage-inducing moment where The MacDonald Brothers gazed into each other's eyes like they were about to start lazily humping each other, their performance was so devoid of any memorable qualities that it was like listening to a bowl of porridge. And yet somehow The MacDonald Brothers breezed through to the next round without any problems. If you voted for The MacDonald Brothers on Saturday, we're going to track you down and sew your fingers together. Especially if you're not Scottish – because then you've really got no excuse. Current X Factor betting odds – 28/1
Tomorrow – X Factor betting odds for Eton Road and Ben Mills.
