Will Smith is a phenomenally gifted man. The dexterity he shows when he plays a charming streetwise rogue in all of his films is equalled only by the way he makes a lightweight rap single for all of his films.

And now, Will Smith fans, you have something to really look forward to. Because it’s been too long since Will Smith was in Hitch, Will Smith has promised never to let his fans down again. Sort of. He’s making a new film, anyway – a remake of a TV show we’ve never heard of called It Takes A Thief. Hooray! Now, promise us you’ll never leave us again Will Smith. Never.

For someone so annoyingly ubiquitous, Will Smith (Stuff) hasn’t
actually been in that many films this decade. Since 2001, Will Smith
has only been in a couple of ropey sequels, a film about haywire robots,
a boxing film and Hitch. But all of that is going to change right now
- as well as the slate of films Will Smith is already working on, he’s
just signed up for a Universal remake of the It Takes A Thief TV series.

It Takes A What? Yeah, we’d never heard of It Takes A Thief either,
but we’re told that it’s a show – almost 40 years old – about a
charming streetwise rogue (what else) hired by the government to do all
kinds of kooky conspiracy cat-burgling gubbins. Will Smith will be
playing the Robert Wagner part, the part that Michael Douglas was
supposed to play when the It Takes A Thief movie was first mooted
around ten years ago – presumably before Michael Douglas turned into
the lawsuit-happy commentator on modern Hollywood relationships.

However, Will Smith knows that It Takes A Thief is probably a few
years off, and that Will Smith fans will be roaming the street with a
murderous look in their eyes and foam streaming from their mouths if
their appetite is not sated soon. And that’s why a new Will Smith film
The Pursuit of Happyness is to be released this year, with Tonight, He
Comes
set to start filming in the summer. Thank goodness for Will Smith!

Now, let’s give Will Smith some space. He has to think up rhymes for
three featherweight mainstream hip-hop movie cash-in singles now.
