Who Will Be The New Wonder Woman?

by Stuart Heritage on July 29, 2005 174 Comments

WonderwomanSuperhero remakes – they’re everywhere.

Batman. Superman. Spiderman. The Fantastic Four. Daredevil. Hulk. Catwoman. If there’s one thing that cinema audiences seem to enjoy, it’s watching people with superhuman powers save the world from stupid bald people.

Next year, a new production of Wonder Woman (DVDs) will begin shooting. But a female lead actress hasn’t been chosen yet. Everyone… well, some people… OK, just us. We’re are asking "Who will be the next Wonder Woman?"

There have been some early Wonder Woman names thrown about. Sandra
Bullock
is a possible star, but original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter says
she’s too old. As is Catherine Zeta-Jones, apparently, although Carter might be
confusing her with her doddery old husband.

It’s assumed that a younger actress will take the role. Katie Holmes
keeps being linked to the role. She’s undoubtedly more high-profile
since she got together with Tom Cruise, but anyone who watched her
cack-handedly dribble her way through her tiny role in Batman Begins
might have been put off somewhat.

The film is being directed by Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon, so we can’t
discount Sarah Michelle Geller. Or that ginger girl. Or one of the
others
.

Who do you think will be the new Wonder Woman? Is Sandra Bullock too
old to play the role? Do you even care? Leave your suggestions below.

Anne Hathway probably would make a sexy and “yummy” Wonder Woman…i’d like the setting to be in an African village where she gets ganged-up by a tribe of ugly, beastly aboriginals who eventually tie her up…wow!! Wonder Woman tied-up, with her body drenched in her own sweat, almost naked and raped by those tribesmen who find her so delicious and irresistable…

Anne Hathaway, Katie Homes, if they cast any of these for WW role I won’t even go see it, if it comes on TV, I’ll turn the channel… I seriously hope as a life-long fan of Wonder Woman, the 1st female I ever drew as a child, and my all time favorite super hero, and lastly a woman, that they cast someone who actually looks like she can kick a grown man’s ass. She should look like she’s from Greece, she should be at least 5′ 10″, with black, curlly hair, and blue eyes. I will be sick to my stomache if they make her look like some pole-swingin, lap dancing, center-fold. Those folks who want some kind of S&M Wonder Woman need to go get a skin flick, Wonder Woman isn’t like that! She should be the woman to which those things would never happen because she’d sooner rip a man’s sine from his body before she allows herself to be tied up by tribesmen…that’s nasty, you need to have your head dunked in a tub of ice cold water a few times Goro99…

Megan fox has a lot of similarities with the original wonder woman, they can even play mother and daughter, just look at the eyes. Kate Beckinsale also will be a good choice with all the action movies she starred in, it’s obvious she can give justice to the role. People, please don’t just base your opinions on the looks alone, otherwise, the wonder woman will be sooooo lame. Can you imagine Katie Holmes kicking and throwing punches? She can’t even play the role of a superhero’s lady well, she looks like she’s going to faint everytime there’s a fight scene. She can just continue playing the “role” of wife to Tom and mother to Suri. No offense meant, though, this is no anti-katie-for-wonder-woman campaign. Angelina Jolie can also play the role – but that doesn’t mean i like her, cause i don’t!

Anne Hathaway as Wonder Woman…tied-up, all sweaty, helpless and gang-raped by ugly African aboriginal tribesmen…wow!!! Beauty and the beast at its best!!! Imagine one tribesman smelling and licking her white, sweaty delicious armpits and saying to her, “Hmm…beautiful white woman smell and taste so good…very delicious,” and Wonder Woman would moan with extreme sexual pleasure…”Ahhhh…”

i really loved watching linda carter as wonder woman when i was young. i did not have any good female role models when i was little, so wonder woman and isis were a big hit for me. i cant see any of the actresses previosly mentioned as ww. erica durance from smallville looks tall and has a great build, she would do the ww uniform justice. just give her the right color hair and voila! she has already had her share of but kickin scenes in smallville and i think she would rock! linda carter should definately play the queen of the amazons!!!

Taylor Cole, Cobie Smulders, size, eye color, and beauty perfect, should be one of them or a complete newcomer from greek ascendent like Melina Kanakaredes´s young sister or something like that, in order to keep the fidelity to the chracter itself. Another thing in favor of Taylor Cole, besides his amazing beauty is the fact that she is athletic, she was on the Junior Olympics volleyball team for her high school, and just like Lynda carter can perform his own stunts. Meanwhile Cobie Smulders is just perfect for the role, she fullfill any requirement.

Whoever it is has to be able to fill out that costume. Therefore my choice for the next Wonder Woman would have to be Leeann Tweeden. And have Lynda Carter play her mother.http://www.randomchic.com/chics/unknown_chics/leeann-tweeden-fhm-2004-5.jpg

I think Catherine Zeta-Jones would make a great wonder woman. I mean to me she is very beautiful and has a good career going. But honestly I think Katie Holmes is a mistake and she doesn’t have the fit for wonder woman. She is too barbie doll like. yes I think Zeta-Jones or Bullock would be great. But then again who could ever replace Lynda Carter.

1) Kate Beckinsale  2) Charlize Theron with dark hair   3) Jennifer Connelly  4) Megan Fox.
Just please do not choose katie Holmes

My first choice would be Laura Elena Harring (MULHOLLAND DR.); not only is she a great beauty but she’s also a fine actress. Apart from Harring, I would consider these women in no particular order:

Jill Hennessy
Shania Twain
Mariska Hargitay
Mariah Carey
Patricia Heaton

This girl isn’t an actress, but I think the shoe fits better with her. Katherine McPhee. Someone should teach her how to play the part. None of the girls mentioned resemble Linda Carter at all. Someone please teach McPhee the role!

Absolutely, no question: gotta be Megan Gale. Chic’s got the looks, height, fitness, sex-appeal(necessary to get the male audience in the door)and she’s been staying in the gym and honing her acting chops. If Whedon is smart(and sometimes he is), he’ll follow that which keeps it solid and true: cast a relative unknown. Otherwise, you think,”oh, look, it’s so and so playing so and so. If he REALLY wants to make film gold, he’ll hire the people responsible for making the WW comic so successfull for the past 20 years to write and story board and character design. This, in turn, saves millions of dollars in planning and pre-production, satiates the core audience and, simply put, GETS IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! Film critic Leonard Maltin said it best: “I’m getting really tired of seeing my favorite child hood comic heroes butchered and man-handled by small brained, narrow-minded, hack neophytes who have absolutely no comprehension of how to handle these amazing characters”. Sounds about right to me! Again, GOTTA BE MEGAN GALE!

Jessica Beal is the logical choice. She has the Linda Carter figure, eyes that would stop anyone in their tracks and the personality for the character. Forget any one like Lucy Lawless she is more the Xena type and not a very good actress, then there is Catherine Zeta-Jones but she is more of a seductress than a crime fighter. Look at Jessica Beal, Figure, great actress, and if anyone could pull it off she could with 5 stars !!!

I have been waiting for a Wonder Woman movie for a very long time and I am sure that Hollywood will do their very best for NOT disappointing a lot of long awaiting fans. I have even considered Angela Jolie for her beauty and her strength. What ever the case may be, the one thing I would love to see is that Lynda Carter be payed homage for her role as the Amazon Maiden. I believe Lynda Carter, if offered the roll and she she chose to accept it, would make a great Queen Hyppolyta. what better way to seal the hollywood deal and make the fans happy!? =)

Look up Alexandra Daddario on IMDB. She is in the Yellow Pages ads, the woman getting dumped by her boyfriend. I think she would make a great Wonder Woman, and I like the idea of a less well-known actress playing the role.
