Wembley Balls-Up For Bon Jovi, Take That, Stones…

The future of the first proposed concerts to take place at the new Wembley Stadium is in doubt. The Stadium, whose initial cost analysis would have been more accurate if it had been done by the Chuckle Brothers, is experiencing delays in its construction.
Music lovers will be delighted to hear that amongst those concerts possibly affected by this Wembley foul-up are hairdresser’s favourites Bon Jovi, and nineties pre-pubescent fanny magnets Take That. Also on the possible cancellation list are pension-rockers The Rolling Stones.
Now that concerts by Take That, Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones (CDs) all look uncertain thanks to some hideously slow construction work, Wembley’s chief executive Michael Cunnah had this to say:
“It’s still too early to say when the stadium will be open.â€
An
attitude he presumably didn’t have when the above acts were originally
booked, or when they scheduled the FA Cup Final, which was going to be
held at the Stadium on May 13th and is now being held in Cardiff
instead.
If we had any money invested in Wembley Stadium – which we effectively have
by contributing to lottery funds – we might be a teeny bit concerned
that the Chief Executive hasn’t extended the project planning to the
consideration of when this thing may actually be finished.
Someone
needs to give Mr Cunnah a third option. Instead of being hopelessly
optimistic, or peddling the “we don’t know either,†line we’ve got another option. It may seem a bit out there to his ‘tell everyone what
they want to hear so they keep giving us money,’ mentality, but have
they ever considered being realistic, and perhaps erring on the side of
caution.
We’re the public, we’re notoriously stupid and we certainly
don’t know how much stadiums should cost or how long they take to
build, but we know a fuck-up when we smell one.
