This week, audiences were given a choice: did they want to go and see the tired ramblings of a wisecracking donkey?
Or did they want to skip Russell Brand‘s new film and watch Shrek 4 instead? Do you see what we did there? We are very clever. Anyway, in the straight weekend box office fight between Shrek Forever After and Get Him To The Greek, Shrek just about nosed it.
Still, it doesn’t matter too much – at least Russell Brand can console himself with the knowledge that a number two movie is still a great personal achievement. And, from the reviews we’ve read, Get Him To The Greek is an incredibly number two movie. Full US weekend box office top five after the jump..
1 – Shrek Forever After (It’s seen off Sex And The City 2 and now it’s seen off Get Him To The Greek. Can Shrek Forever After see off The A-Team next week as well? Let’s hope not. It really isn’t very good) $25,300,000
2 – Get Him To The Greek (Whereby the fat one from Superbad is asked to take Russell Brand to see Stavros Flatley from last year’s Britain’s Got Talent. Unless they were actually Cypriot. Look, we’re making all of this up here. Cut us some slack) $17,423,000
3 – Killers (What’s that? Ashton Kutcher AND Katherine Heigl in a high-octane romantic comedy? Why of course we’d like to go and see it. Oh, no, wait – we’re slicing at our wrists and thighs with rusty tin cans that day. Sorry) $16,100,000
4 – Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time (People may not have loved Prince Of Persia, but at least it means we’re one step closer to that Deal Or No Deal: The Videogame movie we’ve always dreamed of) $13,900,000
5 – Sex And The City 2 (Another embarrassing droop for Sex And The City 2 this week. Nope, we can’t think of a joke to go along with that) $12,650,000
