Jesus_3Good news everybody! Jerry Springer: The Opera is not offensive.

A TV watchdog has ruled that although the screening of the play had "deeply offended" a large number of people, Jerry Springer: The Opera was nevertheless "an important work and commentary on modern television". Ofcom examined the show against 12 sections of it’s code, and has cleared the complaints made against it.

Famously, the opera contains more than 3000 swearwords, and a scene where Eve tries to grab Jesus’
testicles. Almost 8,000 complaints were made before it was even
broadcast, and a similar number afterwards. 63,000 callers are said to
have protested, while there were a number of demonstrations outside
Television Centre.

A lobby group named Christian Voice published the home addresses of BBC producers and executives, leading to some households being flooded with angry calls, one apparently threatening "bloodshed" if the show was broadcast.

Seemingly, if you get christians angry enough, they forget about
about the peace and love Jesus spoke about. A proposed tsunami
fundraising concert to be held at Chelmsford Cathedral featuring two members of the Jerry Springer
cast – who were welcomed by the Bishop’s Chaplain – was boycotted by
Christian Voice. People who attended the fundraiser were "supporting
blasphemy"
.

The BBC were said to be "pleased" at Ofcom’s decision. Mainly because it can go ahead and broadcast it’s new series, Jesus Wets The Bed And Smells Like A Tramp And Shops At Kwiksave And Has A Betamax Video System.
