…OK, so Brokeback Mountain wasn’t actually nominated for any animation awards. And just as well: Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit wouldn’t have done so well if it had.

Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit swept the board at the 33rd annual Annies - the most prestigious animation awards in Hollywood, held by the International Animated Film Society - taking home 10 awards. We didn’t see the awards, but we’re hear they were a bit dull - apparently it takes a full week of painstaking work to create just two seconds of real awards ceremony.

Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit (DVDs) had a troubled
creation - it took creators Nick Park and Steve Box five entire years to make,
and then - once it was made - it came up against stiff opposition from
the rabbit-fearing folk of Portland Island and - slightly more importantly - a massive fire that destroyed many plasticine models. But now it looks like all the hard work is starting to pay off.

As well as a nomination for the Best Animated Feature Oscar, Wallace
And Gromit: The Curse of The Were-Rabbit
absolutely cleaned up at the
33rd annual Annies awards, held at the weekend. Wallace And Gromit won
10 awards in total, for best feature, best directing, best writing,
best character animation, best character
design, best animated effects, best music, best production design, best
storyboarding
and
best voice acting.

Wallace And Gromit beat off competition from Tim Burton’s The Corpse
Bride
, Howl’s Moving Castle and… no, that’s probably about it
actually. But it’s still an achievement of sorts. Accepting the awards,
Nick Park - in America to promote the DVD release of the Wallace And
Gromit
movie - said:

"To the DreamWorks team, we’d just like to thank you for your copious
notes. They were like fresh manure on our vegetables."

Aww, he’s even a bit weird in real life. That’s sweet. And a bit weird.
