Vin Diesel loves his videogames. The only thing that makes Vin happier than sitting in front of a screen blasting baddies is starring in abominable movies about a big man looking after a bunch of kids.
To prove his dedication to videogames, Vin Diesel seems to only want to star in videogame movies from now on. He’s already got a Hitman movie remake in the works, and now he’s decided to get involved with The Wheelman – a multimedia extravaganza comprising of a simultaneous release of a Wheelman movie, videogame, album and commemorative slipper set.
We don’t need to tell you why videogame movies are a bad idea – and anyone who has seem Doom is legally obliged to agree with us here. But
Vin Diesel (DVDs) just isn’t listening. He’s already supposed to be playing Agent 47 in a Hitman movie
that’ll be made at some point in the future, and now he’s signed up for
The Wheelman – "a groundbreaking action-entertainment property,"
according to Diesel, Midway Games, MTV Films, and Paramount Pictures, who are jointly producing.
The Wheelman will be developed as both a film and a videogame,
meaning that audiences will be able to… well, we’re not sure exactly
what it means. But Vin Diesel is going to star in both. Ostensibly,
The Wheelman is about a retired driver who returns to his old ways to
protect a woman from his past, and will be written by the man who
brought you xXx.
Movies like The Wheelman usually live or die by the choice of
director, so who’ll be in charge of the film? We’re not sure. When will
The Wheelman be released? We don’t know that, either. So what do we
know? Well, according to David Zucker, president of Midway:
"We believe The Wheelman is a groundbreaking new model for our industry."
What does that mean?
"We intend to create a broad-arcing experience, simultaneously
developing entertainment properties across a number of mediums, with
Vin Diesel right at the centre of it all."
Right. So nobody knows, then.
