VIDEO: New Kids On The Block On Today, Together & Zimmer-Free
Then buzz it up
April 4th, 2008 at 18:00 by Stuart Heritage
You've been waiting for this day for years - well, probably more 'dreading' than 'waiting' but let's not split hairs - New Kids On The Block are officially back!
Not too long ago the reformed New Kids On The Block made their first public appearance on the Today show. And after the shock of realising that they all still have fully-working sets of eyes and limbs subsided, we heard New Kids On The Block tell the world that "Music brought us back."
We presume that'd be Music O'Kneesmash. the famed Boston debt collection agent, then. Anyway, video of the New Kids On The Block Today appearance after the jump.
Hey you! Are you a slightly odd woman in her mid-to-late thirties who can't stop living in the past because that's when you were popular and boys liked you and you didn't have a job and a screaming baby that you secretly regretted having since the moment you gave birth to it? If so, we've got some really exciting news for you - New Kids On The Block are back!
Yes, we know that you knew New Kids On The Block were back because you heard the reports and listened to the song and looked at the ropey new photo of them - but New Kids On The Block are back! They're really back! Talking and moving around and everything!
It was perhaps the most poorly-kept secret since Jennifer Lopez's pregnancy, but New Kids On The Block made their first public appearance on the Today show this morning. Meredith Viera and the Today team kindly shuffled around their traditional swearing pensioner-heavy schedule and had the boys on to announce their new tour and album and, well, here's the new-look New Kids On The Block in all their balding, quietly-desperate glory…
Quite the sight, huh? We especially like watching the New Kid On The Block who gets caught behind the other New Kids On The Block and keeps politely trying and failing to push his way forward. Foolish New Kid On The Block - doesn't he know that only Marky Mark's brother is allowed to talk?
Anyway, if you can't quite bear to sit through an entire video of some old men getting screamed at by some women old enough to know better, then here are the main bullet points of the New Kids On The Block reunion.
- The first reunited New Kids On The Block performance will be on the Today show on May 16.
- New Kids On The Block have been working on a new album since last summer and it'll come out in the autumn.
- They'll tour the album, but they want to focus on new material. Possibly because they're idiots who don't realise that they'll only be popular to drunk hen parties who want to screech along to Step By Step then go home.
- It's very clear that some members of New Kids On The Block really, really don't get on.
That is all.

New Kids On The Block - The official group of “Peaked in High School.”
April 4th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
I’m beside myself with anticipation.
And the two of us are sitting here jamming
pencils into each other’s ears trying
desperately to get to the cerebellum before
the radio comes on. Wooo-hoooo!
April 5th, 2008 at 12:42 am
This author is such a hater! I might be in my thirties, but why should I be dead to music or any kind? Yeah, I have 3 kids, wouldn’t change having them for the world, but I am very much alive, and I very much am still a fan of these 5 guys. I will be at their concerts, and you know what?! I’ll even be taking the day off from work May 16th! There is nothing wrong with looking back at your teen years, I had a lot of fun then. If we couldn’t look back on them then why go to high school reunions? You can love your present and your future, but there is nothing wrong with looking to the past. Most adults problems these days are that we let the pressures or life get to us, we ought to let ourselves have some fun once in awhile.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
Wow, I can’t believe the venom behind this article - at the end of the day, New Kids On The Block made an awful lot of fans very happy, what right has the author got to be so critical? Unless of course his wife is an NKOTB fan and he’s feeling a little neglected lol. NKOTB were the biggest and best boy band and I for one am so glad they’ve come back to make us happy all over again
April 5th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
New Kids On The Block were the biggest and the best - lighten up Stuart Heritage, you may not like them but an awful lot of people do!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
welcome back NKOTB. This is absolutely amazing. NKOTB RULES!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
You know, why can’t we just love them in peace? Does it matter how old we are or what we or they have done since the late 80s, early 90s? Millions of fans are happy they are back, why is that such a surprise? I personally can’t wait to go to the concert, buy the CD (yes, I want the NEW material), and have a lot of fun! The band is immensely popular & deserves respect for what they have done and are doing. I think they have presented themselves in a very dignified way and authors like yourself are really not acceptable of it. I think YOU are the ones stuck back in the day. Move on, like it or not, this is happening.
April 5th, 2008 at 5:44 pm
Sorry the way New Kids brings back such GREAT memories for so many. And the best thing is so many more are to come! NKOTB can’t be stopped
Just ease into it, it will be alright!
April 5th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Thank you for making an article that gives them more attention. Your contribution to the reunion is duly noted. Have a nice day
April 5th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Ah - enter the haters. The fans knew this reaction was coming. There’s always the jealous boys (who are now men and really should grow up) who hate the New Kids and whine about “artistic purity,” and other such noble concepts. The haters claim the New Kids are “fake” and generated to appeal to the masses.
In all actuality they are brilliant musicians and talented performers who were blessed to be produced under Starr’s fantastic marketing guidance. And judging by the reaction to their reunion annoucement - that concept is SOLID. The fans are loyal today. Don’t be jealous - take notes.
And “drunken hen parties”? - try mobile, gainfully employed, successful women who are ready to monitarily support GOOD music for a change.
Nice try, guy.
April 5th, 2008 at 6:33 pm
This hating stuff is getting so old… can’t you grow up like us fans did ?
April 5th, 2008 at 8:35 pm
For someone that doesn’t like the New Kids, they sure go out of their way to spend time writing an article about them.
To me,that’s pretty sad.
NKOTB 2008 I AM READY!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 8:36 pm
I’m a firm believer in “if you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at allâ€, so I will just say have a nice day here, and thank you for giving the New Kids some more publicity! It’s blogger’s like you who help spread the word, good or bad, so thanks for making sure at least 4 or 5 more people know about them reuniting!
LONG LIVE THE BLOCK!!!!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Awww, what’s the matter? Still not over being jealous of 5 very hot and talented men Stuart? Poor little blogger.
Thank you for providing another source of publicity for the group. Not that they need it.
They have millions of fans who are very happy they are back.
April 5th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
We’ve heard all this before. It becomes very tiresome after a while. Have you nothing better to do than spit this poison? Why are you wasting your time and energy writing all this stuff? Wouldn’t you be better off using your creative energy doing something else? You’ve obviously spent too many hours on this. Is that the best you can do? All you’ve done is generate more publicity for them and given them your attention. If you really do hate them, then keep your comments to yourself. There are many of us out there who continue to support the guys. Don’t play games with us. Keep it real.
Have a nice day!
April 5th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
DONNIESANGELS SUPPORT DONNIE WAHLBERG & NKOTB ALL THE WAY!!! NKOTB I AM READY 4 U!!!!
NO MORE GAMES BOY SO WHAT YA SAYING BEAT THE BEATNESS COS DONNIE AIN’T PLAYING!!!
April 5th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
Thank you so much putting the word out about the New Kids Reunion. Your help spreading those news is much appreciated. Enjoy your day!
April 5th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
I’m a fan from England. Yes, I’m 33, no I’m not ‘odd’, what is ‘odd’ in today’s society anyway? I am an actress and I live with my partner and work hard, I love sports, reading, theatre, music - of all sorts by the way, rock n roll, pop, jazz, swing, rock. and no you are wrong, back in the day I wasn’t popular, but I had New Kids and through them I made loads of wonderful friends I have today - I met my best friend through them and was bridesmaid at her wedding last year. We loved that time, we can’t expect anyone outside of the group or the fans to understand what it meant to us and the sheer excitement but we do expect respect and perhaps to give them a chance. This reunion isn’t just welcomed by us 30 year old fans - there are new fans about in their teens, all the old fans are back, my partner is excited for me - their image is just perfect and they’re back to show what they’re made of. They didn’t tour solidly and sell all those records for nothing. At least get your facts straight and have bit of respect.
April 5th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
For someone who obviously doesn’t like them (probably because you dated a fan who would rather spend time with her posters than you) you write an awful lot of articles about them.
If you really must write about your take on celebs fine, but don’t bring fans into it and completely insult them. For your information, I am 31, professional, no kids, single and HOT - I just don’t date idiots like you and I probably earn a lot more too.
Remember these guys sold millions of albums. And they’ll probably a sell a lot more when the new one comes out. Living in the past? I don’t think so.
April 6th, 2008 at 12:14 am
Commenters, these types of articles are ubiquitous. Don’t fall for it. They just want comments whether they be negative or positive. Obviously, negative comments grab more attention. Hey, if they wanna give unintentional publicity for our guys, that’s their agenda. I will always have NKOTB’s backs and it’s people like Stuart who make it easy to toss gibberish aside, which is exactly what this article is: complete gibberish. Stop copying MTV, Stuart. It’s not cute.
April 6th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Music O’Kneesmash
I want to pee myself. That was f*cking funny. I stopped reading right there just so I could comment on that one alone. I’ll check out this venom in a bit.
P.S.: 30-something is FAR from old, I’m thinking.
Old officially starts at 51 1/2. Or at the point at which you begin dressing in fashionable gear from your high school years (that rhymed, by the way.)
April 6th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Funny how you criticize New Kids fans for being over the hill now - at the height of their popularity the fans were criticized for being so young. Any logical person would realize that fans now are actually in their mid-late 20s into their early 30s. People who can’t do math just bother me….
And don’t be bitter just because your girlfriend would leave you in a split second if one of these guys ever looked her way. Actually, that’s giving you too much credit. Don’t be bitter just because you can’t get a girlfriend. There’s always those online dating sites!
April 6th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
I’m 26 years old and pregnet. have have loved the new kids on the block all my life. I still have a sweater from when I was little. I have a cd with their music on it. I can still sing the songs word for word. My dream is to see them in concert singing their old music.
April 7th, 2008 at 12:55 am
You secretly love NKOTB dont u ?? you seem to do an awfully lot of articles on them.
NKOTB FOREVER !!!!
April 7th, 2008 at 2:22 am
I sit here vanquished, poisoned by the robots. Doddering Old Farts On the Block fans.
The above posts are so well beyond sad,
so thoroughly and utterly disheartening, and
occasionally heart-breaking (Ms. Divot)
that I can’t summon the enthusiasm to continue. What use?
It’s like they are an entirely different species…
Weird space-age mutant cow-people that feed on their own shit,
blindly heading over the cliff en masse, excited by the prospect
of what it feels like to ‘fly’. Wooo-hoooooo-mooooooo!
Oh, yes, by the way - I’m just a hater seething with jealousy
because I’m not a Dismal Parody of My Former Teenage Self.
Hats off, New Kids fans, you’ve introduced me to
a whole new dimension of aloneness.
April 7th, 2008 at 7:11 am
Yeah sure I might be in my thirties, and I’m still a fan what’s wrong with that? Yeah I was a teenager when I became a fan and I’m proud of it. You didn’t have to be so harsh when talking about them. I think you’re just a jealous hater that wishes that you could be like them. I love NKOTB and I’m proud of it. Kiss it you hater!! Peace!!!!
April 7th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Stuart & Euclid,
You’re STILL talking about the New Kids on the Block?!
It’s unbelievable how you can STILL be going on and on and ON about something you claim to care so little about.
You’re beating a dead horse. They’re back, so are the fans. There’s nothing you can do about. Feel free to stab your ears with your pencils as you mentioned. I encourage it. Maybe go for the jugular while you’re at it so we can be spared from your monotonous hyperbole.
Let it go already. It’s just sad.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
“Dogs bark at strangers.” Heraclitus
I’m not talking about the band, I am writing about
their fans and the disturbing nature of the world
in which I live and of which, sadly, you and your
horrid tastes are no small part.
I do not fill your world with my shit, but you
fill this world with yours. It’s bad enough that I have to
have this shit pumped into my head every time
I step out to buy toothpaste. Don’t tell me I have to enjoy it.
April 7th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
YOUR STILL TALKING ABOUT THEM THAT MEASN YOU CARE!!!! SO THAT MEANS YOU ACTUALLY FANS!!! MY COMPLETE FAILURE TO UNDERSTAND BASIC DEDUCTIVE LOGIC DOOMS ME TO A LIFE OF LIKING EVERYTHING THAT IS DUMB!!!!!!!
April 7th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
No Jennifer, Stuart and euclid are not beating a dead horse; however, NKOTB and their reunion is.
