Yeah, we know - everyone’s carping about the Oscars - the best films of the last year. What’s the point of talking about the US weekend box office - the most popular films of the last three days?

Well, we’re not sure. But here’s the weekend box office anyway, and it’s good news for fans of films that people are calling "Positively insulting" - Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion, basically Big Momma’s House with even fewer laughs, is top of the US weekend box office for the second week running.

Despite being up against harsh competition from Bruce Willis (DVDs) with
ridiculous facial hair in 16 Blocks and Milla Jovovich wheeling out her
"Hey, geeks! Look how sexy I am!" shtick in Ultraviolet, Tyler Perry’s
Madea’s Family Reunion
has dressed up in its best fat old lady suit and
punched the life out of any contenders that looked to topple it from
the pinnacle of the US weekend box office. And quite right too - after
all, men dressed as women are inherently funny - even if they do just
spout melodramatic codswallop all the time. Here’s the full weekend box
office top ten…

1 - Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion (An apology, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s
Family Reunion
isn’t a miserable melodrama with a man dressed up as a
big fat woman, as we stated last week; it’s a moving exploration of
the human condition. With a man dressed up as a big fat woman) $13,000,000

2 - 16 Blocks (We know 16 Blocks is going to be a fun film because
a) Bruce Willis sports a My Name Is Earl moustache, and the trailer
music is all "Boom! Boom boom! Dagga dagga dagga!" These days, that’s
all we need to convince us) $11,655,000

3 - Eight Below (Maintaining a high place in the US weekend box
office
chart. Which proves that a film about cutey-wutey doggies will always
succeed, even if it’s a film about some cutey-wutey doggies slowly
dying after being chained to a wall for too long) $10,268,000

4 - Ultraviolet (Possibly the only film that makes Underworld: Evolution look like The Bostonians) $9,000,000

5 - Aquamarine (Aquamarine? Ultraviolet? What is this, the US weekend box office of bad car paint colours?) $7,500,000

6 - The Pink Panther (Featuring a stellar, once in a lifetime performance from Marc Raco as Sneezing Man On Plane) $7,000,000

7 - Dave Chappelle’s Block Party (Wow! This and 16 Blocks - Mos Def
is in two films in the US weekend box office! He’s the biggest star in
the world! No, even better - he’s this week’s Paul Walker) $6,156,000

8 - Date Movie (Featuring a hilarious Napoleon Dynamite spoof where a man
dresses up as Napoleon Dynamite and then acts exactly like Napoleon
Dynamite, hilariously) $5,125,000

9 - Curious George (We’ve just realised that all the characters in
this are drawn to look exactly like the people who do the voices.
Frankly, we’re creeped out) $4,444,000

10 - Firewall (Firewall will drop out of the US weekend box office next week. And Mos Def isn’t in it. Coincidence?) $3,604,000

  1. Marsha Clark Says:

The negative comments about Madea lets me and everyone that truly enjoy Tyler. You were not raised in the same fashion as the characters in the show and therefore I can see why it is not funny to you, but as you can see from the money it is making that there are great deal of us who can.

  2. Marc Raco Says:

Thanks for the props for my pivotal, life-changing performance in “The Pink Panther!”
