TV Watchdog Tuts At Family Guy, Desperate Housewives, CSI

Digg this!

Telly_set_6You know all those TV shows you enjoy, like The Family Guy and Desperate Housewives? Well, you might want to stop watching them – some of them can be quite rude, you know.

A conservative TV watchdog – the Parents Television Council (PTC) – has just released it’s list of the ten best and worst prime-time TV shows for family viewing. And you’ll never guess which list Desperate Housewives is in…

Ever since Janet Jackson flopped her knocker out at the Superbowl
last year, conservative TV groups like the Parents Television Council
have gained more and more power in the American media as they campaign
against nudity, violence, swearing and all the other stuff that makes
TV good in the first place.

The PTC’s list of best and worst TV shows is meant to be seen as a warning to families. A statement on the PTC website reads:

"Families should not be deceived. The top three worst shows all contain crude
and raunchy dialogue with sex-themed jokes and foul language."

Let’s take a look at highlights from the Parents Television Council best and worst list…

WORST:

1 - The War At Home. PTC says "An early
episode this season had Dave buying his teenage son a lubricant because he was
making himself sore from masturbating too often."
Sounds funny.

2 - The Family Guy. PTC says "The show bases its humour on scatological and sexual references
(including masturbation, incest, bestiality, necrophilia)."
It’s a funny show.

3 – American Dad. PTC says "Episodes have included
animated nudity, vulgar anatomical references and sexual innuendo."
Sounds exactly the same as The Family Guy, and it is.

4 - The O.C. PTC says "One
episode last season featured a party in which teenagers were shown
smoking pot, snorting cocaine, and engaging in drunken threesomes."
But
it’s got Jim Robinson from Neighbours – a moral guardian for a
generation – in it. Surely it’s not that bad.

5 - CSI. PTC says "Episodes included storylines about the murder of a man who practised the sexual
fetish of infantilism, complete with scenes of him playing baby and nursing
from his girlfriend’s breasts."
OK, that’s pretty disgusting. We saw a documentary about infantilism once. Bleaugh.

6 - Desperate Housewives. PTC says "Desperate
Housewives presupposes that statutory rape, murder, drug abuse, suicide,
murder, and kinky, adulterous sex are sources of hilarity."
Hilarity? Have they seen the show? It’s rubbish.

7 - Two And A Half Men. PTC says "In one
scene, Charlie teaches Jake ways to surreptitiously make obscene gestures."
Rightfully on the Worst list. Because it’s shit.

8 - That 70’s Show. PTC says "Frequent references
are made to pornography and masturbation."
See our pithy comment for number seven.

9 - Arrested Development. PTC says "Tobias says he was an analyst and a therapist, making him
the first ‘analrapist’."
Haha. Analrapist. We love Arrested Development.

10 - Cold Case. PTC says "Last year’s
episodes included… a transvestite teenaged prostitute
killed in a possible snuff film; a man who forced illegal immigrant women to
perform sex acts on him; the case of a young boy sold by kidnappers to a child
pornographer; and in the season finale, a mother offering her son to a rapist in
exchange for her own safety."
Sounds like a night out round our way.

We won’t list all of the shows on the Parents Television Council
‘Best’ list, because most of them are happy sitcoms about horses and
dancing and stuff. But here are some highlights…

BEST:

1 - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. PTC says "Besides highlighting the good works for families in need, the
program also features local companies that often donate funds to establish
scholarships for the young children in these struggling families, ensuring they
have a chance at a better future."
Boring!

3 - American Idol. PTC says "This reality series doesn’t focus
on backstabbing or betrayal."
Yes it does!

8 - Dancing With The Stars. PTC says "Dancing with
the Stars

is an elegant program that the whole family can gather around the television to
watch."
It’s American Strictly Come Dancing! Imagine how dreadful it must be.

10 - There is no 10th best show. There are only nine good family shows in America.

70’s show is about masturbation and pornography? for the few years that i’ve watched i’ve not picked up on that. the running theme seems to deal with drugs.

apparently the creator of this list has no consideration for individual taste. IMO american idol is crap. family guy certainly entertains me more than any of those “best” shows ever would.

i believe the “worst” shows are popular, not because the media tells people they are popular, but because people like to watch them. apparently we don’t need to take popular interest into account when guaging the quality of a show though. =)

  • Duke says:

Yeah, I am going to watch my TV base on this…NOT.

All the good shows are on the worse list. Who is on this council anyway? Mister Rogers and his mother?

I think the PTC is a bunch of “Maroon”.

I am a parent and I can make the decision.

10 Best and Worst Shows on TV

According to a self rightous watchdog group:
    The synopsis is: If it involves anything remotely related to “s e x” or “m a s t u r b a t i o n” it’s “b a d”.
    *yawn*
    Da List
I agree some aren’t appropriate for children, but get real… they’re desperate to

  • Cosmo says:

“All the good shows are on the worse list. Who is on this council anyway? Mister Rogers and his mother?” – Duke

    Mr. Rogers is dead :(

  • Mark says:

I noticed that nobody has a problem with all the violence–just the sex.
There’s a war on–people (real people) are dying. Do we really need to worry about them talking about sex on TV? Get over yourselves you self-righteous retards. Protest the the war and death–we’ll worry about masturbation later.

  • Lightkeeper says:

    There is no good TV
Put down the remote and go outside

  • Vincent LaCommare says:

    I fully support PTC.
I do not know of any one thing that has done more to breakdown families than the trash on TV.
If there are that many people that need, crave and want that kind of trash in their life then we as a Christian nation will end like the Roman Empire that was so powerful but began to rot from within.

  • Dax says:

I think the PTC is a bunch of crap. These “worst shows” they list are not meant for kids, they are for adults. Many put a warning before the show begins warning of the content of the show. Also those TV rating boxes that appear at the top corner of the credits tell you if the show is for general family viewing, children or older audience.
What more do these people want, someone from the Studio to hold their hand while they let the TV be their children’s babysitter?
I would never allow my kids watch CSI or Desperate House Wives(its on after 9pm anyway should not your kid be in bed or getting ready to?)

  • Dante says:

I’m a big fan of the PTC. It keeps closed-minded morons from watching good shows… and provides me with good research on which shows I would probably enjoy.

Oh and Vince, I’m not quite sure what you mean by “Christian nation”, but I’m assuming it has something to do with chaining gay teens to the back of a truck and dragging them to their death. If watching TV will help end that, I’m all for it.

  • fred says:

the amerkan idul is grate and famuly gy suck becuse it has masetrbating. masertbating is bad becuse your i’s will go towrd the blind way.
    amerkan idol dont have masertbatng
so its good. the famuly gy probly
likes the terrist from osma binladin

  • Tony the Toe says:

i would like to make a comment to Vincent LaCommare, it is because of people like you that bush is in office, and what does Christiananity have to do with anything, ill tell you what it has to do with it NOTHING, so why dont you pray to god that all the bad people who dont believe in your way of thinking to burn in hell, and ill see ya there

    love tony the toe

  • Cubbie says:

    ^^^ Hillarious! ^^^ Thanks fred!

  • Francis L'Ollonais says:

It seems like the PTC has too much time on their hands to just sit and watch TV all day to find something they consider bad.

FOX is not the only channel on the tube, I say Bozell change the channel. I am sick and tired of these so-called concerned parents that expect the government to raise their children. These are your kids, not the Feds’. You raise them, you teach them values and morals, dont expect TV shows to do that for you.

I remember when teachers disciplined kids in school until parents said “you dont tell me how to raise my kid” or “you have no right to hit my kid”. The result, gang members. Now they cry for the FCC to raise their kids. I swear, its just like that time I had to entertain the White House . . . woogidy, woogidy, woo!!
