As time marches on, men are getting better are being in touch with their emotions. Kinda. Men haven’t perfected the emotional outpourings of many women, but they have progressed from handshakes to manhugs.
The awkward pat on the back is almost a thing of the past as men embrace each other with glee and solidarity.
However, some chaps still aren’t very comfortable with the whole thing and need some pointers. And Guinness have created an instructional video for the blokes of the world in an attempt to help them navigate the tricky manhug, leaving us to ponder about the greatest bromances in history.
As well you know, March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day, which sees Ireland celebrating a snake-charmer and going to church, while the rest of the world sees it as a great opportunity to get some stout in their system.
Naturally, when you have a pint of the good stuff in you, men are more prone to randomly hugging their manly pals and shouting “I LOVE YOU MAN!”
Thank goodness for pubs and their ability to help bromances flourish.
But before we look at the greatest bromances of all time, let us first learn the perfect way to execute a manhug.
So who made it into our best bromances ever?
Han Solo & Chewbacca
The greatest bromance ever. Ever, ever, ever, ever. From the affectionate “laugh it up fuzzball!” To the tender moment when Han is getting his ass frozen, when he gently says “Save your strength. There’ll be another time. The Princess. You have to take care of her. You hear me? Huh?”, Han and Chewie are a constant high-five. One of the greatest injustices in the world is that this pair never ended up with their own sitcom together. Just imagine that for a second. Amazing.
Chandler & Joey
Chandler and Joey are the perfect bromance TV couple. From their Laz-E-Boy armchair japes to the doting parent skits with a duck wandering around their house, it was only Joey’s success with the women of New York that saw him avoiding the confusion aimed at Chandler’s sexuality. They made a lovely couple didn’t they?
Jay & Silent Bob
The inseparable Jay and Silent Bob are almost as join at the hip as the furry characters from Rainbow. Do they sleep in the same bed while reading comics and swearing profusely? Either way, this pair couldn’t ever be improved by a love-life. In ultimate bromancery, these two need to be single forever more.
Homer & Ned Flanders
Homer and Ned may irritate and grate on each other, but really, their level of annoyance only comes from a place of respect and love. Homer hates Flanders because he wants to be him and Ned looks on enviously at Homer’s lack of forethought and primal manliness. When they team up, as in Vegas, they make for one of the finest bromances ever created.
The way the Rat Pack went about their business together was the blueprint for gangs of men going on a night out or weekend away. Sadly, most modern men don’t have a bespoke tailor to whip them up fine threads. This gang of lads was an alpha bromance which is tough to top.
Method & Redman
Hip hop’s Laurel and Hardy have made films and records together and at times, are completely inseparable. Like brothers from different mothers, you can imagine Mef and Redman living together in a terraced house in the Yorkshire Dales getting up to all kindsa mishaps.
Turk & JD
Without doubt, Scrubs stars JD and Turk are the most flagrant bromancers to ever grace a screen. They’re not afraid of giving each other a back rub or allowing their friendship to near ruin romance.
Kenan &? Kel
Although Kenan and Kel are no longer on our screens (well, not where we live anyway), we hope that, somewhere, the pair are still as thick as thieves, hanging out together, drinking fizzy pop and munching cheesy snacks while tittering at everything that surrounds them. Yes. Even though they’re probably in their 80s now.
Kirk & Spock
Have you seen the Spock and Kirk fan art? Have you? If so, you wouldn’t dare question their inclusion in this list. Star Trek’s finest bromance is one that is unlikely to ever be matched as long as they continue to make Star Trek films and shows.
Batman & Robin
