It’s hardly The Apprentice. Sex-tape loving drummer Tommy Lee, Metallica-deserting bassist Jason Newstead and Guns N’ Roses stand-in guitarist Gilby Clarke want a singer for their imaginary band.
This can only mean one thing – a reality TV show! Come the summer, everyone will be talking about Rock Star: Supernova, the show where Lee, Newstead and Clarke look for a new singer. And when we say everyone will be talking about it, we mean everyone will be saying "Did you see Rock Star: Supernova last night? No, me neither."
Last year, Australian band INXS kicked off the Rock Star show,
by trying to find a replacement singer for dear old autoerotic
asphyxiated Michael Hutchence (CDs). And who, after weeks and weeks and
weeks of endless auditions did INXS pick as their rock star singer? J.D Fortune, an Elvis impersonator who propelled INXS to their rightful place in the Billboard charts – number 37, to be precise.
But that’s INXS. Even with a charismatic singer like Michael
Hutchence they were rubbish. So for the upcoming season of Rock Star,
producers made noises in the direction of Van Halen, possibly even
Queen. But that didn’t work out, so they cobbled together a bunch of
out-of-work musicians who are famous by association, called them
Supernova and launched another series of Rock Star into the atmosphere.
Rock Star: Supernova won’t be shown on TV until the summer – but will
that stop human fireball Tommy Lee, Jason Newstead and Gilby Clarke from making polite
statements about the show? No way, man! Tommy Lee first:
"Starting a new band with old friends on worldwide television is going to be a blast."
Then Jason Newstead:
"The anticipation is building in me every day. This is a supergroup in the truest sense."
And now Gilby Clarke:
"Rock n’ Roll is so alive and I’m so excited to be a part of CBS’s Rock Star. This is television history."
If
you think you have what it takes to front a band made up of Tommy Lee,
Gilby Clarke and Jason Newstead on the next series of Rock Star:
Supernova, write down all your details on a piece of A4 paper, roll it
up nice and small and then slowly push it up your arse, you backcombed
idiot.
