Tombliboo In Crotch-Staring Lawsuit Trouble

Digg this!

In The Night Garden Isaac Blake Tombliboos unfair dismissal crotchIt's a fact that In The Night Garden is probably the best TV show – no, the best piece of art – ever.

But as much fun as In The Night Garden looks, what with Igglepiggle's weird bell-foot, Makka Pakka constantly using his Uff Uff to clean things like an obsessive compulsive and the ongoing pioneering journeys of the Ninky Nonk and the Pinky Ponk, in reality it's not that much fun.

Isaac Blake, who played one of the Tombliboos, is suing In The Night Garden's creators for unfair dismissal, even though it's claimed he did nothing but stare at men's crotches all day. He's seeking unspecified damages and full custody of the Olly Bolly Dob Dob.

Ragdoll Productions has a history of making groundbreaking TV shows, whether it's Tot's TV (the first puppet show ever to have a slutty French redhead as a main character), Pob (responsible for the late-1980s 'gobbing on windows' phenomenon) or Teletubbies (the show that freaked out all of Poland).

But In The Night Garden is something else, because it's just about the only TV show where you can hear Shakespearean heavyweight Sir Derek Jacobi babble crap like "Makka Pakka akka wakka mikka makka moo, bakka pakka akka yakka ikka akka ooo, hum dum agga pang ing ang ooo, Makka Pakka akka wakka mikka makka moo" like an old man who had a bump on the head and now can't stop pirouetting down the High Street naked. Look…

But anyway, even though In The Night Garden looks like the best thing in the universe, actor Isaac Blake – who played one of the Tombliboos – is suing Ragdoll for unfair dismissal. He claims that he was sacked from In The Night Garden for complaining that his robotic Tombilboo suit was so faulty that it injured him.

Blake also claims that he was called a 'faggot' at work, partly because he apparently asked all the men to wear shorts, then stared at their crotches and made inappropriate sexual remarks to crewmember Jake Rawlings. The Telegraph reports:

In a statement read to the tribunal in Birmingham, Mr Rawlings said: "He would ask us if we would wear shorts for him for his pleasure." In another statement a colleague said: "Isaac was always making comments to me that were not acceptable. "I had to say to him once, 'Why can't you have a conversation with me without looking at my crotch?"

Now, this is all painfully reminiscent of the Isaiah Washington scandal from last year that caused an international debate on sexuality. But we can't see Isaac Blake's case doing the same thing, because people were able to discuss Isaiah Washington's situation without having to make several references to the Ninky Nonk to contextualise it.

Anyway, there's a chance that In The Night Garden is now one Tombliboo down thanks to Isaac Blake's sacking so – if anyone from Ragdoll is reading this – pick us! Pick us! We're dirt cheap! In fact, given the chance to dance around in a robotic suit with cameras for eyes inside a Ninky Nonk singing songs about knowing where our nose is, we'd give up this blogging lark and do it for free! Us!
