Our old Grandpa used to say to us, "Son, if you want to destroy your career, be sure to do it swinging a new-born baby around your head and wanking off a horse while inside the carcass of a dead deer."
We didn't heed the old man's advice – we still don't have a career to destroy – but at least Tom Green did. Since he did the babyswing/horsewank/corpsewear combo in the movie Freddy Got Fingered, Tom Green sort of stopped being famous. But now Tom Green is back with his new talkshow! On the Internet!
To paraphrase Whitney Houston, didn't Tom Green almost have it all. A few years ago, Tom Green was the star of his own MTV show – and Cancer special – he wrote, directed and starred in his own film – Freddy Got Fingered – and he got married to one of Charlie's Angels – Drew Barrymore. He's divorced Barrymore, MTV axed his show and Freddy Got Fingered is mostly recognised as one of the worst films ever, despite getting the phrase "Daddy would you like a sausage?" into the global vocabulary.
But now Tom Green is back and ready to be Internet famous again. ManiaTV.com has signed Tom Green up for 50 one-hour episodes of a phone-in talk show broadcast from his mansion in the Hollywood hills. The first episode of Tom Green Live will be shown on June 15, and Tom Green seems pretty jazzed about the whole affair:
"It seemed like the ultimate playground for someone like me. I've always enjoyed doing goofy experimental stuff that sometimes was too weird to put on a TV show but was fun artistically."
We're probably not the only ones worried about Tom Green's idea of "too weird to put on a TV show," since the stuff he did put on a TV show included dead moose humping and waking up his parents with a severed cow's head. But that seems to be stuff that gives ManiaTV.com spokesman Richard Ayoub a lovely warm glow. He says that Tom Green has:
"complete and total creative control. We have no standards and practices. He is going to be completely uncensored. That's what we can give him that MTV never could."
Well, that and a TV show…
