Tom Cruise (DVDs) and Katie Holmes (DVDs) continue to put themselves forward as king and queen of strange television talk show behaviour, with respective recent appearances on Jay Leno and David Letterman.

For those of you who don’t know, young Katie Holmes is the secret new girlfriend of Tom Cruise. But don’t tell anyone. They don’t want anybody to know.

Yeah, right. As anyone who’s seen or read about Cruise’s bizzarro performance on the Oprah Winfrey talk show knows, it’s physically impossible for either of them to talk about each other more than they already do.

Of course, a lot of this strange talk show behaviour might just possibly be
down to the two films that the two stars have got coming out in the
next few weeks.

First comes Katie’s Batman Begins, the ‘re-invention’ of the Batman franchise, with no bat-nipples, no crazy bad guys and no fun whatsoever. After that, Tom’s War Of The Worlds gets released, where Tom Cruise explodes some bad aliens for two hours.

Following his spaz-out on Oprah, there was enormous speculation that
Cruise had lost the plot entirely. So now it’s damage-limitation time.
Tom appeared on the Jay Leno late-night talk show mocking his own Oprah
weirdness by jumping on more sofas. He defended his outbursts by
proclaiming "When I start to think about her, things happen. So, cease talking."

And last night, Katie Holmes appeared on the David Letterman talk show. She’s less of a publicity veteran than Cruise, so she filled the interview with the usual "he’s amazing"s, and claiming she’s never thought about the age difference between the couple. Though she did visably bristle when pressed about how tiny Tom is.

It won’t be long before both Batman Begins and War Of The Worlds are released. What happens to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes after that is anybody’s guess.
