Everyone always slags January off for being the most depressing month, but it’s also the month when we hear about loads of bands who deserve to be massive in the forthcoming year. Meet.John.Doe is one of those bands.
Meet.John.Doe are definitely a bunch to get excited about, if their debut EP is anything to go by; full of spiky, intelligent, experimental, fiercely independent rock like At The Drive In used to make. They’re not angry, though. Even though they sing about setting fore to entire towns.
hecklerspray caught up with Meet.John.Doe‘s singer Jamie Giarraputo for a chat about facial hair, Mac And Me and why Meet.John.Doe really aren’t angry at all, honest…
Who are you, and where are you?
My name is Jamie. I am the singer in Meet.John.Doe and it is very nice to meet you!!
Describe yourselves for us, would you?
Passionate and sexy.
Tell us about the new EP.
Its a mix of many different musical genres and inspirations all
culminated in one affordable package, with a video thrown in for good
measure.
If Meet.John.Doe could join together and become a huge robot – like
the Power Rangers often do – which member of the group would make up
each limb?
Justin would be the legs as he provides stability and leadership,
Lewis and James would be the arms as they provide the rhythm and
coordination of the songs, Rob is the body because he fills out the
sound with his sexy lead effects, and I would be the head as I think too much…
What’s the best thing anyone has ever said about Meet.John.Doe?
Nothing yet, its early days, we have just had a really positive response.
Why are you so angry?
Angry??? We aren’t, there’s not one section on the EP that has an
angry point; there are heavy points, but there is no anger in the
lyrics themselves or the music.
A woman has 5 Potatoes to feed 3 children how can she give them equal portions without fractions?
Mash the potato up and feed the hungry kids, or kill 4 of them, ANGRY.
We can’t help but notice that one of you is rocking a ‘soul patch’
piece of facial hair. Have you ever thought about setting it off with a
nice moustache?
We now own moustaches….
Preach about something you love (not related to the band) in 100 words.
I love Mexican food, I love the fajitas, I love the burritos, I love
the chili, I love the Jalapenos… I also love my fellow human beings
more than anything in the world… apart from Mexican food.
What’s on the Meet.John.Doe iPod?
On my iPod is Chris De Burgh and the Grease soundtrack… not
really. Biffy Clyro, Your Code Name Is Milo, Damien Rice, Coldplay, The
Dead 60s…. just a lot of British bands.
Favourite movie soundtrack?
Mac And Me or Ferris Buellers Day Off.
Motorhead have Cheese And Chive Ruffles on their rider. What’s on yours?
Water and cod liver oil tablets!!
Say something rock and roll.
Would you like a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit??
What are you going to do right now?
Write an angry song, eat some Mexican food, grow a soul patch, have a cup of tea and a digestive, sleep.
Meet.John.Doe’s debut EP is released on Monday. Find out more about Meet.John.Doe at the Meet.John.Doe Myspace page.
