Maybe the Queen is a secret rocker - she’s just presented legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page with one of her highest honours, an OBE.

Jimmy Page was given his OBE for helping put charities dealing with Brazilian street children. Not for putting a live shark up a girl’s minge, like we thought.

Back in 1994, Jimmy Page (CDs) was promoting an album in Brazil when he
witnessed a street fight between two gangs of street children. Page
recalls, in typical rockstar fashion:

"At that time in Rio the sun wasn’t shining. The army was going into
the favelas and I heard about the plight of the street children."

Moved
by what he saw in Brazil, Jimmy Page joined up with charity Task Brazil to
build a safe house which has supported more than 300 street children since it
opened. Jimmy Page has been thanked by the Brazilian Government by
being made an honorary citizen of Rio de Janeiro, and now he has been
awarded the OBE by the Queen. Page said:

"The Queen
actually said it was very important work and that it was a horrible
problem for the street children. I think when you’re faced with a
plight that’s inescapable, and
there’s something you can do about it, you hope you can make a
difference."

All this child-helping is a far cry
from Jimmy Page’s exploits when he was a member of Led Zeppelin. There
are all kinds of rumours about Jimmy Page touring with a suitcase full
of whips, dabbling in satanism and, most notoriously of all, inserting
a life shark up a groupie. But Page’s OBE is purely for his charity
work. As Jimmy page himself says:

"This is not about my music."

Quite right too. We hear that Queen Elizabeth is much more of a Badfinger fan.
