The Pursuit Of Happyness Pukes Up US Weekend Box Office
Then buzz it up

Christmas is starting to do our heads in. Christmas day is still a whole week away, and yet everyone's already become so sentimental that they're letting a nauseatingly cute film about Will Smith hugging his own son top the US weekend box office.
It's strange to see how the US weekend box office reacts against itself sometimes. Last week Mel Gibson's Apocalypto - a couple of hours of blood-splattered violence that managed to out-shock even Saw 3 - was the number one weekend box office movie, and this week The Pursuit Of Happyness - an insufferably twee film about how much Will Smith's love for his son can even overcome obstacles such as being sack, becoming homeless and having the woman from Mission: Impossible II walk out on them both. We'd be happy to describe The Pursuit Of Happyness further, but thinking about it has made us cry vomit out of our arses.
Will Smith knows box office success like very few others. Seven of the top 100 movies with the biggest worldwide opening weekend box offices have been Will Smith movies. And with every one, the list of things that Will Smith hates grows. In I, Robot Will Smith hated robots. In Independence Day Will Smith hated aliens. In Men In Black Will Smith hated aliens, in Men In Black II Will Smith hated… OK, so Will Smith mainly hates robots and aliens, but now - thanks to The Pursuit Of Happyness - Will Smith has added another hate to his list - computer spellcheck programs. Here's the US weekend box office top five…
1 - The Pursuit Of Happyness (We're going to pass the theatrical release of The Pursuit Of Happiness in favour of the Director's Cut DVD, where Will Smith wins his house, job and wife back after battling a giant metal robot spider driven by Kenneth Brannagh) $27,000,000
2 - Eragon (It's the traditional Christmas movie about dragons and fairies and shit that we'd rather chew all of our limbs off than watch!) $23,450,000
3 - Charlotte's Web (A Babe-style movie! Yay! Based on a heartwarming book that children hold close to their hearts! Yay! Starring Dakota Fanning! Oh…) $12,026,000
4 - Happy Feet (Sad to say that Happy Feet has now crossed the five-week US weekend box office tenure, which means it only gets the "blah blah penguins blah blah dancing blah blah environmental message" treatment. Sorry) $8,520,000
5 - The Holiday (Never trust a film that has Jude Law as a selling point, that's what our dear old mammy told us. Combined with her "Don't go to see a romantic comedy at Christmas" and "Cameron Diaz is a shithead" nuggets of advice, we haven't actually got round to seeing The Holiday yet) $8,200,000

Is that Will Smith in the picture, or a dodgy stunt double that looks like Will’s old boss from Will & Grace?

I thought the movie was inspiring. It certainly helps me to remember certain parts of the movie when I’m feeling a little too overwhelmed with obstacles. Will Smith is cool, he has a cool family.
