The David Cronenberg Public Sex Extravaganza

David_cronenberg_sexYou’ve got to love David Cronenberg.

There are several ways for a director to put actors at ease before filming a difficult scene. A closed set, giving the actors time to talk over their feelings and concerns, maybe even a drop of alcohol. But that’s not for David Cronenberg.

No, instead he decided to put everyone at ease by screwing his wife in front of everyone. Attaboy, Dave.

The new David Cronenberg movie A History Of Violence has garnered a
bunch of outstanding reviews from critics, not least for the film’s
unflinching views on violence and sex. During filming, possibly worried
that he was the only person ever on Earth to ever have sex, Cronenberg
invited his wife onto the set to show the actors how it was done.

The film’s star, Viggo Mortensen (DVDs), recalls the moment:

"There’s a couple of fairly racy
sex scenes in the movie… between Maria Bello and myself. David, trying to be
helpful, as usual, thought it might be a good idea to call up his wife and have
her come down to the set. The crew and Maria and I just sat and watched while he and his wife got into
something comfortable – nothing – and they started to say, ‘We want you to (do
this).’ Maria and I were both going, ‘OK, we get it.’ This is a testament to their relationship, they kept going and they kept
going and then we broke for lunch and some time in the evening Maria and I got
to have a crack at it.
Instead of putting us at ease, we actually were kind of freaked out… Maybe
some things ought to stay private."

Wow
- the only thing that can stop rampant sex colossus David
Cronenberg is lunch. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Attaboy!
