Television Critics Give Lost Some Kind Of Award

Television Critics Association awards LostBeing a TV critic is probably the best job in the world - you get to sit around all day watching a load of stuff on TV, write down how rubbish it is and get paid. And you get to go to swanky awards ceremonies where you can lord it over actors, too.

The American Television Critics Association knows all about these awards ceremonies; it had one on Saturday. And the collective wisdom of the assembled television critics judged that Lost was a good TV show, Grey's Anatomy was a good TV show and Hugh Laurie wildly throwing his arms all over the place and doing more or less the same thing every single week constituted good acting. These critics, eh?

Face it, you've wanted to be a television critic at one point or another - possibly because you get paid to sit on your arse and watch bad TV, or possibly - like us - you can't help but tear up with pride when you look at a picture of spouting, bearded, reactionary, television-criticising twat Gary Bushell. But it's probably mostly got something to do with the annual Television Critics Association awards, where you'd get to dress up all nice and tell Hugh Laurie how brilliant he is a lot.

The Television Critics Association awards took place on Saturday night, with the express intention to hail a bunch of TV shows that it likes. Just like you do with your mates, only with more famous people and organisation and less weeping because nobody agrees with you that Charlie And Lola is better than The West Wing. And, despite recently discovering that it hasn't been nominated for any Emmys, Lost was one of the stars of the ceremony.

Behind the scenes events have overshadowed all the confusing nonsense that goes on during Lost lately. Offscreen, all kinds of crazy things have been happening, from cast marriages to book deals to talk of a Lost movie to cast members getting wankered in their cars and going to prison for it. Meanwhile, onscreen someone presses a button once in a while and a man shouts "WAAAALT!" every three nanoseconds. Hardly compares, does it?

That hasn't stopped the Television Critics Association handing Lost the Outstanding Achievement In Drama award for the second year straight. Others big winners of Television Critics Association awards included The Office - which won the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement In Comedy (for Steve Carrell) awards; Hugh Laurie - who won the Individual Achievement In Drama award for House; and Grey's Anatomy, which won Programme Of The Year. And, once again, Charlie And Lola was overlooked. The bastards.
