If you’ve ever felt like running around smashing a load of cats in the face with a big spoon, Portal Defenders is your game.

It’s wonderful. It’s an old-school side-scrolling beat ’em up like Double Dragon, except that there’s one of you and the baddies – or at least some of them – are cats. Best of all, Portal Defenders has got the learning curve just right. It’s not a cakewalk by any means, but it’s not so impossible that you end up hating it. Honestly, Portal Defenders is brilliant and you should definitely put your job in jeopardy by playing it all afternoon.

As excellent as Streets Of Rage and Double Dragon were, they were really missing two important points.

These were obviously children dressed as cats and a sense of moral responsibility. That's where Portal Defenders comes in. It's a side-scrolling beat ?em up where several of your foes are children dressed as cats. And then, every couple of levels or so, you have to clean up all the blood you've splattered everywhere. Something for everyone, provided you like cleaning up blood and children dressed as cats.
