Madonna Pays Touching Tribute to Herself at MTV VMAs

August 21st, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

I’ve been sticking by the MTV VMAs for more than twenty years, but last night was the last fucking straw for me. First of all, both “This is America” by Childish Gambino and “Apeshit” by Beyonce and Jay-Z were nominated for Video of the Year. Both were visually stunning and politically relevant, plus both those songs are fucking dope. But you know what won Video of the Year? Motherfucking “Havana” by Camilla Cabello.

That might seem like the straw that broke the MTV VMAs back, but Camilla beating Gambino and the Carters wasn’t even the stupidest part of the night. The dumbest part of the whole show? When MTV decided to let Madonna do a tribute to Aretha Franklin. And since Madonna is apparently now Lady Donald Trump, she made the entire tribute about herself.

The MTV VMAs were a Major Letdown

August 29th, 2016 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

If you follow this blog at all, you’ll know that I was majorly jazzed for the MTV Video Music Awards last night. I had my series of fun predictions over what might happen and for the first time in 9 years, I was genuinely excited to watch this shit.

However, instead of fulfilling ANY of my expectations, I instead sat back and watched my youth fucking DIE on stage. Sure, it had some good parts (the whole show was shameless in its blackness, Beyonce was fire as always, and she won video of the year so that was cool), but for the most part it was pure, childhood-crushing shit.

Tonight’s MTV VMAs Could Be Huge

August 28th, 2016 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

So, as you might have been able to tell from my recent posts, I’m kind of jazzed about tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards. This is not a common thing. From the years 1995 – 2004, I was definitely always jazzed for them, but then I kind of got over it. In fact, the last time I was pumped for a VMAs was 2007 when Britney Spears gave her HORRIFIC ‘comeback’ performance.

I have not been excited for a VMAs until now. After 9 years of so-so shit, where the most interesting thing to happen on the VMAs stage was a drunk Kanye West snatching the mic from Taylor Swift, tonight’s VMAs has the potential to be legendary. Let me explain why.

The MTV Video Music Awards are tomorrow, so I’ve been celebrating it by posting some sweet lists to relive its rich cultural history. Yesterday I looked at some of the best vma outfits, today I’m going to take a walk down memory lane and remind you all of some of my favorite vma moments.

So while Drake is busy taking out billboards to celebrate Rihanna’s Vanguard award at this year’s ceremony (what’s the deal with their relationship?! Will we ever get the truth??), I’m going to force some of my favorite MTV memories on you.

10 Best MTV VMA Outfits of All Time

August 26th, 2016 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

mads14new,0
So, the MTV Video Music Awards are coming up this Sunday, and I have been watching this shit for legit 20 years which makes me feel old af. In celebration of me watching my 20th MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, I decided to spend this weekend looking back on some fond memories of mine.

Today, I’m going to look back at 10 of my favorite outfits from the VMAs over the years. I mean, I say the best outfits of all time, but I obviously mean since like 1995. Yes, I realize the awards have been around since like ’84, but I wasn’t alive then and MTV didn’t exist to me til ’95 so, you know, deal with it.

Miley Cyrus’ Tongue Was the Biggest Thing About the 2013 VMAs

August 27th, 2013 By Rhiannon Davies

vma-logoWhoever came up with the idea for the MTV Video Music Awards was a genius.

You fill the room with over inflated egos, throw in half a dozen cameras and make them all fight for the attention and admiration of the viewers at home, like some kind of musical Hunger Games. This year’s show was no different – some tried good old fashioned showmanship, some wore ridiculous costumes, and one person in particular tried to vibrate her ass against Robin Thicke before getting frisky with a giant foam finger.

No prizes for guessing who that was.

The VMA Conspiracy Theories Are Coming

September 15th, 2009 By Amy Grindhouse

Beyonce, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, MTV VMAsRumours about what on Earth really caused the now infamous outburst at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards have started to surface.

You probably know what actually happened onstage by now. The show’s been playing on a loop ever since, alongside witty commentary pointing out that grown men making young girls weepy is a rather rubbish thing to do. Kanye West has had to apologise not once but twice for making himself look like a twit – such a twit that one capital-letter-laden apology on his blog was not quite enough to cover it.

Now that both long-winded apologies are over and done with the world can move on to the next controversy. Wait, what’s that? We can’t?

Kanye West & Taylor Swift Cruelly Refuse To Make It Stop

September 16th, 2009 By Stuart Heritage

Kanye West, Taylor Swift, MTV VMAs, BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!!Stuff you, Michael Jackson! The biggest news story of the year isn’t your death any more – it’s Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

Or at least that’s what they’d have you believe. Because even though it was basically just one idiot hurting another idiot’s feelings for a second, Kanye West and Taylor Swift are steadfastly refusing to shut up about the MTV VMA incident.

The latest news is that Kanye West has now personally apologised to Taylor Swift. And if that apology involved anything more than bellowing “BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!! BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!! BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!! BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!! BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!!” into a telephone, we’re going to be sorely disappointed.

Kanye West To Go Away And Jolly Well Think About What He’s Done

September 15th, 2009 By Stuart Heritage

Kanye West, Tyalor Swift, Jay Leno, MTV VMAs, BoooyaaawwwwKanye West has already apologised once for hopping onstage at the MTV VMAs and stamping on Taylor Swift’s heart.

But that’s not enough. Because, as we all know, an apology isn’t really an apology if it’s bellowed across the internet, peppered with several thousand exclamation marks and features the word ‘BOOOYAAAWWWW!!!!’ or any related forms thereof. Which is why Kanye West apologised again on TV last night.

If fact, Kanye West announced that because of his VMA behaviour, he’s going to “take some time off and analyse… how I’m going to improve”. So that’s the last we’ll see of him, then.

MTV VMAs: Kanye West Buggers Everything Up, Again

September 14th, 2009 By Stuart Heritage

Kanye West, Kanye West MTV, MTV VMAs, Taylor Swift, BeyonceSeriously, when will you people learn? It’s rule number one when it comes to organising awards shows, but you always ignore it.

Never invite Kanye West. That’s it. It’s a fundamental awards show rule. Invite Kanye West and he’ll invariably end up losing an award he assumed he’d win, shrieking indignantly about it for 30 minutes and then pooing in his pants on purpose while refusing to break eye contact with the camera. It always happens. Never invite Kanye West.

Just ask Taylor Swift, whose MTV VMA acceptance speech Kanye West obliterated last night because he thought she wasn’t very good.
