MIA has the ability to make us listen to her music without high-profile publicity and glossy product placements.
That said, she still raises the bar when it comes to releasing albums. Whilst most promotional videos are now just full of gimpy-looking blokes shuffling around in oversized clothes and badly miming along to the music, MIA decided to make it a bit more artistic.
Lady Gaga started to bring back the trend for well-produced videos with her overdrawn Telephone promo and MIA followed. If you like a slightly confusing message of what a violent society we live in, then Born Free is the video for you. Despite using the internet to premiere it, MIA still seems a little paranoid about the likes of Google and Facebook. She’s not sick of being invited to Farmville, but more so about a subdivision of the American government nicking our data. The tits.

Now that Lady Gaga has made the pointlessly long music video fashionable again, everybody wants to have a go.
Like MIA. She’s got a new song out, called Born Free. And to mark this important occasion, she’s made a video. A nine-minute video. That she doesn’t even appear in once. But that’s OK – the song’s called Born Free – which we assume is a cover of the Matt Monro standard – so we’re sure that the Born Free music video is a warm-hearted tribute to the 1966 Oscar-winning story of Elsa the lioness and her heart-wrenching journey from captivity to the wilds of Kenya.

You know how M.I.A has been heavily pregnant for the last few months? You’ll never guess what’s happened.
M.I.A’s only gone and had a baby. We know! Who knew that babies came out at the end of pregnancies? Not us, that’s for sure – we were convinced that women either gave birth to unicorns or life-sized marble statues of Italo-American physicist Ugo Fano but, no, apparently it’s babies.
What’s more, M.I.A has blogged about her baby and – get this – it appears as if she actually quite likes him! Wow, that M.I.A, huh? No wonder she’s so blinking controversial. Whatever next!
