Mitch Winehouse, father of beehived bandit Amy, has told the News of the World that he wants his daughter to be sectioned.

Just yesterday there were reports that Amy didn’t want her husband to come out of jail.

What is it about this family that makes them want to incarcerate their closest relatives so much?

Love?

And by ‘mental’ home, we don’t mean it in the modern-youthful sense of the word (i.e. a ‘wicked-fun time’) as if the hospice was run by clowns who could heal patient’s injuries with heavy doses of laughter.

We mean it in the traditional sense; the Syd Barrett sense; the Jon Bon Jovi sense.

Mitch is convinced that sectioning Amy is the only way to save her from killing herself. He said:

“I want her sectioned. The situation is getting out of control. I want her off the street.”

Should they ask her to go to rehab? Mitch say:

“I don’t think being somewhere for six weeks is going to cure her problems. I think it needs far more radical measures. We will take the bull by the horns and deal with it.”

Come on Mitch – we know she isn’t the prettiest girl, but her own father comparing her to a bull? That’s a tad harsh. He furthered a lot more:

“I’ve been on the phone to Amy’s manager in Los Angeles and he’s starting things rolling. They are going to be speaking to doctors, psychologists and everything else. I want Amy to be somewhere where she will be safe and where no harm can come to her. Obviously, as her dad, I will try and do what’s best for her. Unfortunately, what I think is best for Amy and what she thinks is best for her are two different things…and it might be that other parties might need to be involved…You need all four – the psychologists, the doctor, the local health authority and the next of kin – all to decide that somebody is sectionable. Now is the time to exert whatever pressure we have to try to do it. I’ve told them she is a danger to herself. There is evidence of self-harming and she’s a danger to other people because she’s attacked someone.”

Amy was released with a caution from Holborn police station yesterday morning for hitting Moroccan musician Mustapha el Mounmi after he refused to give way to her at a pool table. Mustapha said:

“I feel so angry. She smashed my face hard.”

Poor Mustapha; now he knows what a Joe Calzaghe opponent must feel like.

Then, after proceeding to play the game of pool – as poor victim Mustapha was legging it to the first policeman or journalist he could find – she allegedly head-butted a good samaritan trying to hail her a cab because – so it turns out – she thought he was trying to molest her.

Trying to molest her? What fucked-up method of taxi-hailing was he using? Maybe Amy felt the constant jerking of his thumb in an upwards movement was actually a mimed-innuendo of what he planned to do with her?

We can’t be sure as of yet if it is Amy exactly, but there is certainly some level of traditional-style mentalness going on here.

Britney Spears has been offered the chance to play nutjob Blanche DuBois in an upcoming London stage play of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire.

You may be wondering why on earth anyone in their right mind would deem Britney Spears an appropriate figure to take on the role of one of America’s all time great femme fatales but, before you get carried away with that thought, just stop to consider a few things:

First of all, Blanche, as all over 50s and film students know, comes from a small town in Mississippi. And where does Britney come from? That’s right; a small town in Mississippi.

Blanche is eventually exposed as an alcoholic, and Britney too has been found out to be dependent on a drug or two .

And, as if that wasn't enough, later on in the story Blanche has a nervous breakdown and is shipped off to a mental hospital.

Not so sure about yourself anymore, are you dear reader? Suddenly it becomes all too apparent why someone might deem the girl suitable.

There is one potent misnomer though, which is that when Blanche looks upon the vicious, working-class, alpha-male that is Stanley Kowalski, she sees nothing but a hideous ‘ape’, and tries but fails to fight off his sexual advances. Whereas Britney…

A source close to the production said of Miss Spears:

"She has poise, timing and real flair. We’d wanted her for Blanche because even though she’s technically too young to play her, who else could embody this fallen southern belle so well? She’s living out the story, so to harness that on stage would be amazing for an audience to see – and cathartic for Britney too."

Maybe you’re right, Mr ‘close source to the production’, but perhaps instead of trying to find therapy in humiliating herself night after night in front of the boos and hisses of the baying-for-her-blood British theatre-going public, she could just have a lie down and a cup of tea?

You might want to sit down for this, but Steve-O from Jackass – a man who staples his scrotum and attaches leeches to his eyeball for a living – might be mentally not great.

Steve-O has been charged with felony cocaine possession following his weird recent vandalism arrest, but there's more. It's also been reported that Steve-O is currently on 14-day hold in a mental hospital after he allegedly sent suicide emails to all of his friends and started putting cigarettes out on his body.  

It seems that Steve-O's condition might be worse than anyone anticipated, which is probably why he should expect a call from the producers of How I Met Your Mother any day now.

Steve-O and Britney Spears don't seem to superficially have a lot in common other than nice short hair and the way that their movies always end in agony – in Steve-O's case it's agony for Steve-O, in Britney Spears' case the audience gets it – but scratch the surface and what do you see?

Well, not a lot really. Steve-O and Britney Spears really don't have much in common at all, but they've both been detained in nuthouses lately and that sort of justifies the comparison. Britney Spears you probably know about – what with every third hecklerspray post being about her – but Steve-O? News to us.

You'll remember that Steve-O was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of drug possession and vandalism, but that's just the start. As far as the drugs thing goes, Steve-O has just just been charged for felony cocaine possession. But as well as all this supposed drug-taking, Steve-O's mental health has taken a fall as well, and he's currently being held in a psychiatric hospital for a fortnight, as eFluxMedia reports:

An insider told Star Magazine that Steve-O was hospitalized Sunday at the Thalians Mental Health Center, specialized in crisis intervention, where he was put on 72-hour-hold, which has been extended to 14 days. “Steve is stabilized on meds at this point,” the source told Star. “He was also treated for burns on his skin as if he had been putting cigarettes out on his own body. A family member told Star that Steve-O suffers from bipolar disorder. During the weekend Steve-O allegedly sent suicide e-mails to friends. 

Concerns over his mental wellbeing? A possibly felony conviction? Things sure have taken a turn for the worse for poor Steve-O. Remember when he was just a fresh-faced youngster who'd vomit up goldfish and splash around in elephant poo and pole-vault into sewage? What could have possibly gone so wrong since then?
