Some horror movies really are shocking. Yep, they are that bad. But there are some that have contain genuine shocks – moments that really make your jaw drop and your toes genuinely curl.

They are rare these days, admittedly. After decades of all kinds of horror movies, the ability to shock viewers has become harder and harder.

We have just about seen every way a ridiculously hard to kill maniac killer with superhero strength can kill a cheerleader. We have usually already guessed who the mystery killer is.

Plus there are only so many times you can watch someone have their insides ripped out by some slavering beast.

Yawn.

But there are moments in horror movies that have really left us speechless.

These moments are burnt into our very souls.

I never trusted that Robert Carlyle. It’s his shifty eyes.

You have to hand it to Sam Raimi.

Painful to watch.

I like to think that if I am ever in that situation that I have the presence of mind to come up with something funny.

No way to treat a baby.

Being decaptitated should not stop you getting some oral sex.

The worst sound I have ever heard in a movie as she strips him of his manhood.

The most boring movie ever – until the last 30 minutes.

Nobody saw that coming.

6. Best advert ever for road safety

This kid gave me nightmares for weeks, but the old woman’s face after being run over by a car was too gruesome to put up on the site.

5. Nazi Zombie Stormtroopers
Movie: An American Werewolf in London (1981)

Anyone see that coming?

4. Three rape
Movie: The Evil Dead (1981)

The tree does what?

3. Mom?
Movie: Psycho (1960)

Finding out that Norman was pretending to be his dead mother while killing people was genuinely shocking and probably gave my grandparents kittens.

2. Giving It Head
Movie: The Exorcist (1973)

It is funny now, but at the time it must have been very shocking.

1. What the hell is that?
Movie: Sleepaway Camp (1983)

I have no idea what it is. All we know is that it has genitals and makes a horrible animal noise.

Over the years, horror films have produce some of the sexiest girls ever seen on screen.

Whether it’s an attractive blonde kicking the crap out of anything with sharp teeth, sultry vampires wanting to suck you dry or busty babes who are destined to be hacked to pieces the minute they decide to go off to the woods with the local jock, it’s a winning formula.

If we were psychologist we would say their appeal has something to do with wanting to rescue damsels in distress.

But we actually think it has more to do with the fact horror films are usually stocked with a seemingly never-ending supply of teenage girls desperate to get their kit off.

But just who are the real Queens of Scream?

She’s the one in the clip prancing around in her underwear if you are not sure.

She’s the radio host with the sexy voice in The Fog. Still not sure, OK, she was one of the sexy girls in the lamborghini that kept flashing her breasts at policemen in Cannonball Run. Now you got it!!

Very sexy, French-born Italian actress more noted for her ‘erotic comedies’. By the way, she’s not the one getting stabbed at the beginning of the clip. She’s the dark-haired on a bit later.

OK, the film was a load of rubbish, but she was certainly worth watching. Not sure why they deleted the scene above though.
