The internet has always been a damaging tool for unintended material to go viral. All you need to do is type “Star Wars Kid” into YouTube to see multiple mocked up videos of the original showing someone emulating one of the characters… or if you prefer, some tubby kid being roundly mocked for having fun.

Twitter has the ability to make a piece of footage go viral in seconds thanks to the power of retweets. One such person who fell victim to this was Rebecca Black. Her parents paid for her to live the dream of a popstar but nobody knew that the song sounded so ropey due to the extreme use of autotune.

At first, the taunts were confined to users describing the song as rubbish. But when personalised threats of violence were uttered, it all got a bit out of hand. But in true Disney esque style, Rebecca Black has come out on top and has released a more polished follow up.

Whilst the video is clichéd to hell, the alternative could have just been Rebecca Black sitting on a chair with her flicking the v’s to the camera.

After all, the video is practically screaming to the person who tweeted pointless anger at her, that as a result it has propelled her in to someone who has gained fame and fortune.

It’s quite probable that she has more money than anyone sending her abuse and the writers of hecklerspray combined.

The plight of Rebecca Black hasn’t gone unnoticed as Katy Perry has even had her cameo in the ironically titled video “Last Friday Night.” Again, both songs might not be our ideal musical preference but we’re not going to send death threats via Twitter to the two involved. Though you only have to look at weird Justin Bieber fans that do that to Selena Gomez on a continual basis. Just because they’re under the deluded impression their idol will whisk them away after spraying themselves with his perfume.

Fear not though dear reader, we’ll soon revert back our regular service of being miserable cynical bastards; we don’t like all this happy stuff. But when it comes down to literally bullying someone over something private that accidentally leaked on the internet, even we struggle to make jokes about it.

Of course, this record is yet another abomination filled with autontune, cynical manipulation of the hearts of those who worried about a young girl being trolled by Internet Types, and now that she's gone 'overground', she's as fair game as anyone. Oh how clever-clever we sniping internet sorts are! If anyone dares to try and make something of their lives, we’re always on-hand to belittle, chide and generally decapitate anyone who has the cheek to stick their stupid heads above the parapet.

And we don’t just store up our ire for adults! No siree! Rebecca Black who is, like, 4 years old or something, has been getting it in the neck over her video, ‘Friday’.

How we chuckle at her misfortune! Right? Wait! What? While you may think that her mother wasted a perfectly good $2,000 cheque by cutting the song/video, you’ll be disappointed to learn that all your sarcasm is making the youngster $27,000. Per week.

The child viral sensation has surpassed the 30,000,000 page views and it doesn’t look like it is going to stop any time soon.

$27,000 per week to you and me. $27,000 and increasing.

That’s the amount of money being earned from people simply saying that ‘Friday’ is the worst music video ever, despite the fact it absolutely isn’t the worst video ever. Nor is it the worst song ever recorded.

In fact, this video here beats Black’s ‘Friday’ hands-down on both fronts as at least Rebecca has the excuse of naivety and youth on her side.

Aw! Look! A 13 year old rich kid has made a DIY pop song and 33 million+ people have watched it on YouTube, most of whom want her to go and self harm and die. Ain’t our species of stumbling homosapiens the best!

Of course, Black’s song – ‘Friday’ – is pish. Not surprisingly really when you consider that she made the thing as a posh version of those old books you can write yourself into. It’s a kid playing at being a popstar and that’s about it.

However, thanks to the meme machine that is the connected human race, she’s gone from being a kid to a very famous kid who performed a song that is in no way as bad as say, ‘Life’ by Des’ree or absolutely anything by Guns ‘n’ Roses. And now she’s got some celebrity fans… of sorts.

Simon Cowell was one of the first to sing Rebecca’s praises, noting:

“I think it’s genius. The fact that everyone’s getting upset about it is hysterical.”

“It’s what we call a ‘hair dryer song’, a song girls sing into their hair dryers as they’re getting ready to go out. But the fact it’s making people so angry is excellent.”

“I want to meet her. Anyone who can create this much controversy within a week, I want to meet. I love people like that.”

Apart from Wagner and Jedward it would appear.

Nicole Richie threw her hat in the ring, saying:

“Rebecca Black is DOPE! I’m gonna support her music, her work & her dream… But still make Friday jokes.”

Even mewing embryo Justin Bieber had something to say on the matter:

“Sunday comes after Saturday? Weird.”

Not weird Justin – factual. You stupid oaf.

Rebecca’s parents reportedly paid record label Ark Music £2,000 to create a video for their daughter in the hope it she may find fame from it. Of course, it did, but not in the way they would have hoped. Rebecca Black is probably crying and rocking back and forth while a man with a Blackberry barks instructions and media training at her.

We don’t really need to explain this one to you. Suffice to say: get ready for the esteem with which you may hold the human race to drop a notch.

Ask anyone which band they'd most like to see reunite and they'll probably say The Beatles – but if you drug their water or concuss them a bit there's a chance they'd say New Kids On The Block.

And if that's the case then their dreams have been answered, because New Kids On The Block are back!

After a few months of sly non-commitment, New Kids On The Block are expected to officially announce their reunion on Friday's Today show. And, as an appetite-whetter, New Kids On The Block have released the first group photo of the reunion. At least that's what we think it is – it could just be a page ripped out of Middle-Aged Weekend Father At A Court Appearance magazine that someone published as a belated April Fool joke. Who knows?

What with war and recession and global warming and Jessica Simpson's stinky piss, the world needs cheering up. And there's no group of people more likely to do that than New Kids On The Block. Not because New Kids On The Block are cool or good or anything, but because it will make the entire world briefly come together in a universal sense of brotherhood and think "Whew! It doesn't matter how bad things get for me, because at least I'm not in New Kids On The Block."

Quiet murmurings of a New Kids On The Block reunion started in January, quickly followed by a snatch of a new song. But then everything suddenly went quiet. We'll admit that part of us hoped that the New Kids On The Block reunion had come to a premature end, possibly because they all started punching each other until one was dead and the others had dislocated jaws. But more fool us, because New Kids On The Block are definitely back and raring to go.

All of them – Mark Wahlberg's Brother, Captain Dungaree, New Geek On The Block, Frankenstein and Generic Other are all set for their big comeback. And that's a comeback that starts on Friday's Today show, where the group will make their first joint televised appearance in an age – to announce a new album and tour to mark the 20-year anniversary of Hangin' Tough.

But Friday is, like, so long away! We want to see a decade of failure etched across their old faces now. Lucky, then, that Yahoo has published the first group photo of New Kids On The Block since before all of them had pubes, or something. And from the sight of it, you'd think that they've all spent the last 14 years hanging out in Marks And Spencer trying to land a job as a catalogue model instead of appearing on British reality TV shows with the skinny one from Little And Large.

What hints about the reunited New Kids On The Block can we glean from this new photo? Well, all five of them are wearing suits instead of ridiculous bandanas and nasty Michael Jackson-style leather jackets, so that probably means that they want to be taken seriously as mature singer-songwriters this time around. Plus four of them have their hands in their pockets, so it looks as if one of them may have become a pickpocket in the years since the band split up.

What else? Nothing. That's literally it. For other clues, we'll all have to watch New Kids On The Block on Friday's Today show. But we've heard one of them now has a voice like Estelle Getty from The Golden Girls and at least two of the others loudly whistle every time they try to pronounce a word with an 's' in it thanks to their ill-fitting dentures.
