Although we’re legally obliged to say that Dave Grohl is the nicest man in rock, and that his band of Foo Fighting brothers make up the nicest band in rock ‘n’ roll, there’s a very strong chance we’d say it regardless.

That’s because they are irritatingly pleasant blokes.

Between them, they clearly enjoy being in a rock band (which is refreshing in itself) and throw people out of their shows for being idiots and make spoof confessionals slagging off the Scissors Sisters (in a very fun way, naturally)… and now they’re giving a film away for free. That’s what nice people do. Not like us. We’d charge you for this rubbish if we could. Anyway, you can watch this film over the jump.

So what is this film?

Well, back in April, the Foo Fighters ran a competition that gave their fans the chance to have them perform a show in their very own garage.

If that wasn’t nice enough, they filmed it as a documentary and are now giving it away for free, documenting their lovely Garage Tour.

As a result, we certainly don’t mind promoting their new LP – Wasting Light – which is out now.

Now on with the 40 minute film. Coo! Coo! Aren’t they just swell guys! Don’t worry. We’ll be berating people again very soon.

Once upon a time in the late 1980s a band called Nirvana was formed. Establishing themselves as part of the moody grunge scene in Seattle, they brought like minded depressives together to sing about the fishes not having any feelings, babies smelling like butter and deodorant.

But as fame, fortune and Courtney Love became too much for front man Kurt Cobain, he ended it all by blasting off his own face with a shotgun. Shame. Such a pretty face.

Dave Grohl was subsequently released from his background role as drummer and subsequently formed new band The Foo Fighters. Known in the industry as being a gentlemen of rock, always respectful, he lived up to his reputation following a recent gig at London’s Roundhouse as part of the iTunes festival.

Half the time when we get reports of awesome rock star behaviour, we have no proof to back it up. But a video has surfaced online that features Dave Grohl putting a stop midway through a song to put a halt on somebody getting a bit to frisky in the moshpit and starting a fight.

Not just the usual pushing and shoving with people being trampled on the ground, but with fists and everything!

Imagine you were there by watching below… but be warned, it has some fruity language, so stick the ‘phones in if your boss is mooching about, okay?

Go Dave Grohl! People follow his every command and everyone whoops and cheers whatever he does. Let’s make him prime minister or the new chief executive of News Corps or something!

Dave Grohl’s a nice guy isn’t he? That huge grinning tooth mouth of his! That fun time Charlie who never has a bad word to say about anyone, ever! Unless you’re Courtney Love that is. Sweet Jesus, he really hates her.

Now hideous, blaspheming supposed nice-guy Dave Grohl has slammed the creator of the greatest television show on Earth, GLEE by basically calling him a whining, simpering git with a God-complex. Which is apparently quite rude!

Ryan Murphy’s incredible sing-a-long comedy which is notable for containing only one funny character has so far worked over the likes of Britney Spears, Madonna, Katy Perry, Journey, Queen and The Beatles. The Glee lynchpins had been expected to add the Foo Fighters to that long list of musical luminaries but Grohl’s distaste for the show and its creator have put a pin in that idea.

Here at hecklerspray we have found it difficult to understand why a hugely successful rock star who is critically acclaimed as part of Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age and the Foo Fighters is in a position to turn down a television show that is literally so good that it can take a woman with no talent for either singing or acting and refer to her as the show’s muse.

Grohl, speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, stated that;

”You shouldn’t have to do f*cking Glee. And then the guy who created Glee is so offended that we’re not, like, begging to be on his f*cking show…”

Who does he think he is? Some kind of musician? Some kind of artist? Someone that doesn’t really like Glee?! Who knew such people existed?

The embittered Grohl went onto lambast the incredibly lovely Ryan Murphy’s treatment of the pathetic rock stars who didn’t wish to have their music used on the saccharine pep-fest;

”Slash was the first one. [Murphy] wanted to do Guns N’ Roses, and Slash is like, ‘I hate f*cking musicals. It’s worse than Grease’. Then [Murphy's] like, ‘Well, of course he’d say that. He’s a washed-up ol’ rock star. That’s what they f*cking do’.”

While we agree in principle that Guns N’ Roses are terrible (although that’s probably not what they were trying to say), Grohl’s reaction to the whole thing has shown him up as the kind of person that every Gleek should despise. Someone who doesn’t hold having their music auto-tuned by a cynically-marketed comedy-cum-musical up as the pinnacle of their musical career.

The battle for Nicest Man In Rock seems to be a straight shoot-out between Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant and Nirvana/Foo Fighters/Loads of Other Bands Which We Won’t Mention Yet Because We Need To Hang On To Their Names For The Rest Of The Article’s Dave Grohl. Well, nice man Mr Drummer Boy has recently been rushed to hospital.

Grohl recently posted a video online with his Them Crooked Vultures bandmates explaining that he’d had an overdose.

Yep, lovely David had been overdoing it and started getting chest pains and had to be taken in for observation. So what is it? Cocaine? Smack? Alas not. In typical Grohl style, the daft twat has overdosed on caffeine and gone and made a funny video about it all.

Thanks to the video being daft, many fans fans seemed to think the whole thing was a joke.

However, Grohl has confirmed that it was in fact real though and he had to be taken to hospital after drinking too much coffee. He told Absolute Radio:

“We were in the studio making a record and I was drinking a lot of coffee.”

“I was doing Vultures stuff at night, Foo Fighters stuff during the day and I had a newborn at home so I was sleeping two-three hours a night on an air mattress in a guest bedroom.

“And yeah, I had too much coffee, I started to get chest pains so I went to the hospital and they told me to stop drinking the coffee.”

So there you have it. He’s fine really. That headline was a bit too serious for what actually unfolded. Now, here’s that video which features Grohl & Co horsing around with fresh pots! And it still might be a joke.

We’d be honoured to have John McCain use any of of our songs – like Look At My Stubby Little Arms or Eghhh (EGHHH) – in his election campaign.

But sadly John McCain isn’t having any of it. Instead, he’d rather use My Hero by Foo Fighters which – while probably a better election song that Eghhh (EGHHH) because it doesn’t have a seven-minute death-jazz intermission played on a contraceptive diaphragm – has annoyed Foo Fighters no end.

John McCain’s use of My Hero has enraged Foo Fighters so much that they’ve launched a furious rock n roll riposte – they’ve written a really bloody strongly worded letter about it. In fact, Foo Fighters have really laid the law down – if John McCain plays My Hero one more time, they’re going to call the flipping council about it or something. Just you watch them!

When a person runs for office in America, it’s important that they pick a campaign song. The song helps to set the tone of the campaign, plus it means there isn’t an awkward two-minute period while the politician shuffles to the podium in the middle of the stage in deathly silence. Would Hitler have lost the war if he’d picked something like Ooh Baby I Love Your Way (Every Day) by Big Mountain as his campaign song? Doubtful.

However, one person who’s been having trouble picking a good campaign song is Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Well, actually that’s a lie – John McCain has found loads of brilliant songs for his campaign, but the trouble is the bands who recorded them get super shitty every time he uses them.

So far, both Heart and Jackson Browne have asked John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin to stop playing their songs on the campaign trail, but now John McCain has met his biggest foe yet – Foo Fighters.

You see, because John McCain is such a hero that he basically single-handedly inspired the flashback scenes from Rambo he decided that the only appropriate song to use is My Hero by Foo Fighters. After all, that’s about, um, a heroin addict blowing his chops off with a shotgun, and that’s, um, sort of, um, appropriate?

Anyway, Foo Fighters aren’t taking this lying down – they’ve issued a statement explaining exactly why John McCain using My Hero in the election is jolly well not on. BBC News reports:

The band said in a statement: “The saddest thing about this is that My Hero was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential. To have it appropriated without our knowledge and used in a manner that perverts the original sentiment of the lyric just tarnishes the song.”

These poor Republicans can’t catch a break, can they? First everyone from Diddy to Madonna has lined up to bash Sarah Palin, and now Kurt Cobain‘s beardy drummer has decided that he doesn’t like John McCain? No wonder he looks like he’ll lose the election now.

Anyway, the best way for John McCain to steer clear of any more trouble like this is to only use songs by people who haven’t complained about him yet. So, in that respect, we think that leaves McCain with a choice between My Old Man’s A Dustman, I Am Woman Hear Me Roar by Helen Reddy and the theme-tune to The Benny Hill Show.

We know which one we’d pick – all three.
