HecklerSpray Advent, Day 7: An Amazing Year For Horror Movies

December 7th, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

If you’ve read my previous blog about the Golden Globes, then you know I’m absolutely livid about Toni Collette’s snub for her Oscarworthy performance in Hereditary. I’ll talk more about that in a bit, but first I’d like to point out that what the Golden Globes also failed to acknowledge was that some of the best reviewed movies of the year were horror/thrillers.

Aside from the cinematic masterpiece that is Hereditary, you had A Quiet Place, First Reformed, the Halloween reboot, the remake of Suspiria, Annihilation, Upgrade, and Mandy: some of which broke box office records, all of which were praised by critics, and all of which were ignored by the Golden Globes. Ugh.

Toni Collette Was Robbed: The 2018 Golden Globe Nominations

December 7th, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

The Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday, and needless to say, I was not impressed. Sure, a lot of cool and deserving people got nominated, but one key person was snubbed and that was Toni Collette.

This year, Toni Collette starred in Hereditary, a horror movie that is also one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Critics called it the new The Exorcist, and it was fucking PHENOMENAL. But what made the movie was just how fucking good Toni Collette was in it.

5 Sexy Summer Movies You Should Watch Right Now

August 14th, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

Summer is v v sexy and always makes me want to be a 17-year-old virgin who spends all summer frolicking with a slighter older lover in the South of France, where I’m visiting my rich, fancy grandma, and I lose my virginity, but then the love affair ends with summer as I have to return home to Canada.

Listen, I clearly have a lot of issues, but something about summer makes people horny, ok? So if you like summer, and you like being turned on, here are some movies that might just be for you!

A (Delayed) Reaction to the Oscar Nominations

January 25th, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

So, the Oscar nominations were revealed on Tuesday, and yes, I know, it’s Thursday. I’m pregnant, I have a toddler, I work full time, AND I’m a grad student, so please back the fuck off my shit, ok? Now that that has been settled, let’s move on.

There weren’t a ton of shockers and I can probably go ahead and predict the major acting award winners right now (Gary Oldman FINALLY, Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell, and Alison Janney), and I don’t even think I’m going to post the full list of nominees in here since they’ve been out for days and you probably know them, but there were some cool things worth mentioning.

On Sunday’s We Wear Black: The Golden Globes

January 8th, 2018 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

There were many things I liked about last night’s Golden Globes–a lot of wonderful and provocative films and television shows were honored, Seth Meyer’s opening monologue was as good as it really could be, Oprah was great as always, and there was definitely a wonderful sense of solidarity amongst all these rich, famous people dressed in all black with their “Time’s Up” pins.

On the other hand, a lot of shit about the entire night was pretty problematic for me. As many people have noted, the whole thing kind of seemed like a white women’s “Woke off” and a lot of shitty people were present and honored, too. So let’s just get down to it, shall we?

HecklerSpray Advent Day 19: The Room Goes Mainstream

December 20th, 2017 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

I have been OBSESSED with the movie “The Room” for 7 or 8 years now. Why, you ask? To put it bluntly, it is hands down the most laughably bad film of all fucking time. I mean, it is INFAMOUSLY bad. So infamously bad, a really great film got made about just how bad it was. And, of course, James Franco is behind all this.

While “The Room” is known as one of the most laughably bad movies of all time and actually has a cult-following based solely on how fucking bad it is, it’s actually gone mainstream this year thanks to James Franco’s film “The Disaster Artist.”

My Horror Movie Golden Globe Predictions Came True!

December 11th, 2017 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

Remember just a few days ago when I made the HecklerSpray advent of the day a tribute to awesome horror movies of 2017 and said you’d definitely see Get Out and The Shape of Water get nominated for Golden Globes? Well, guess who was right?!

The Golden Globe nominations came out today and there are a fuck ton of movies I’ve never heard of, lots of shows I have heard of (my mom’s favorite “drinking wine alone” show, Big Little Lies, got nominated a bunch), and, SHOCKER, no nominations for Kevin Spacey. Let’s take a look at the nominees! (With my commentary, as per usual)

HecklerSpray Advent Day 8: Great Year for Horror Movies

December 8th, 2017 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

I am a HUGE horror movie lover and the past few years have been AMAZING for providing me with quality scary movies. However, 2017 saw not only well-made horror films, but box office record breaking horror films.

Movies like It and Get Out were not only critically acclaimed, they KILLED it at the box office, with Get Out being the first movie written/directed/starring a black man to break $100 million at the box office and It being the highest grossing horror film of all time.

Harvey Weinstein is a Rapey Old Pervert

October 10th, 2017 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

Stop me if you’ve heard this one, but it turns out that a super powerful famous guy has SHOCKINGLY been using his influence to coerce women into sexual acts, all while harassing and assaulting them on the side without EVER getting in shit for it. I could typically insert like 50 names here, but right now I’m talking about Harvey Weinstein.

Harvey and his brother, Bob, have headed up the megaforce Weinstein company for years and have made some MAJOR movies that have won numerous Oscars and launched who even knows how many careers. However, it has recently come to light that during his time as a studio big wig, Harvey has been a disgusting piece of shit to women.

Krysta’s Drunken Netflix Review: You Get Me

July 6th, 2017 By Krysta Fitzpatrick

News bella thorne halston sage nash grier you get me
So, as you all know, I have a weird preoccupation with Queen Lot Lizard, Bella Thorne. As it turns out, Bella has a new Netflix movie “You Get Me”, which is basically a shitty sexy teen “Fatal Attraction.

So, I thought: What would be more fun than a 30-year-old woman sitting down and drinking a bottle of white wine and reviewing a sexy teen Netflix thriller? Right? Let’s do this.

Ok, first of all, in the first two minutes of the movie there is a yoga scene where the instructor tells everyone to do warrior one and they all do warrior two. I do yoga four times a week and I am not here for this shit.
