Why do we suddenly care what the Greasy-Haired Prince of the Undercut is up to? Well, in case you haven’t heard he’s been making kissy-faces with Ellie Goulding of “having a jaw the size of a cruise-liner” fame.
There we go, there’s your jokes about their appearances. Did you enjoy them? No? Good.
When the men of Britain retreat to their sheds, they like to tinker with things. And quite possibly read bongo magazines. While the majority of shed dwellers come out reeking of oil, Mr Cheapskate comes out covered in melodies and wry, sideways glaces at the world.
See, Cheapskate is a purveyor of shed-pop complete with a lovely, homespun DIY ambience that invites you in and sits you down with a nice brew.
In much the same way early Twisted Nerve releases felt like they’d simply ambled in off the street, Cheapskate’s music doesn’t so much announce its arrival with great fanfare, rather, pops round your house after passing through the area… and it’s very pleasing indeed.
Remember Jos? Gonz?lez? Yeah, he’s the guy who soundtracked all those coloured balls falling down that hill in that TV commercial. Well, him and his lovely voice are back with his new band Junip. Well. We say ‘new’, they’re actually his old band as they were formed in the late ’90s… but chances are, you haven’t heard of them before.
Junip is Gonz?lez on guitar along with drummer Elias Araya and organ/moog player Tobias Winterkorn. They’ve done a mini tour of the States in June and has been playing the European festival circuit all summer.
Now they’ve got a record out one Mute/City Slang and will be touring North America… and you can have a listen below.
