That’s right. They were a vaguely noisy band with an obsession with Bowie and women’s blouses. They were at the forefront of Britpop and, for the most part, Britpop was rubbish. So thanks for that.

Apparently, they’ll be making a comeback. Just great.

Of course, there’s a plethora of middle-aged men with pink faces who are just as thrilled as their velvet blazer wearing girlfriends who will be pleased about the return of one of the most average bands in existence! Dust down your Doc Martens now! Start brushing off your best Indie Nightclubs Of The 90s anecdotes now!

The band are going to release a new DVD Box Set of their comeback performance at the Royal Albert Hall on 24th March, a show that was described by Brett Anderson “The best gig ever.”

Or, if you prefer, ‘the gig I can remember best because I my head was completely inserted into my colon throughout the 90s.’

This new limited edition boxset (limited to THOUSANDS of copies, of course) contains a DVD of the entire concert featuring twenty-one dreadful, pompous, overblown songs about nothing, as well as thrilling backstage footage (Toilets! Dressing rooms! Team prayer! All in black and white no doubt!) and two audio CDs of the show and a grotty 48 page book.

There’ll also be specially written individual notes by all five band members and photos documenting the event.

This all signals the intent for Suede to make a comeback, just so fans can hear the most dreaded words on the nostalgia circuit: “This one’s from our new album…”

Apparently, Anderson says that, if the new material isn’t amazing, they won’t release it… not that this ever stopped them in the past.

Excuse us. We’ve got 8 litres of snakebite to puke up.

It was a time when us Limey gits felt like we’d wrestled the pop crown back off the Americans after their onslaught of fuzz pedal grunge.

Out went plaid shirts and in came parkas, old-skool tracksuit tops and burpy lager.

And of course, there were some good records released around that time… but not all of them. Don’t mistake the notion of Britpop being brilliant with ‘I liked it when I was 18′. There’s a massive difference between the two.

With that in mind, some of this playlist really isn’t pretty, but the thirtysomethings of you out there will no doubt thrill at a little nostalgia as you recall dancing to the pitiful Shed Seven in some grotty indie disco somewhere.

There’s a few bands missing too, such as Oasis who don’t want their tracks on Spotify. There’s also a few bands like The Gyres who are clearly too obscure to be featured on Spotify (click here if you remember them at all). However, there’s some great songs too!

‘Wake Up Boo!’ aka The most perfect pop song of the whole of the ’90s kicks things off, before making way for Supergrass, The Auteurs, Elastica and more.

Here’s the Britpop tracklisting…

Has Nick Leeson just been arrested for his part in the downfall of Barings bank? Has eBay just been founded? Has Rose West just been sentenced for the killing of 10 women and children?

No, that’s because it’s not 1995 any more (sorry, mid-90s fans). But looking at some headlines you might be forgiven for thinking that it’s 1995, because the WAR between Oasis and Blur is back ON. Apparently.

After Blur had critical and fan adoration heaped on them in big hot dollops for their reunion gigs at Glastonbury and Hyde Park, its now been decided by someone that the classic Britpop feud is to resume.

Oasis are playing Wembley this week, and it’s reported they have to do ‘something special’ in order to make Blur look like a bunch of Fred Perry sponsored pony-bummers.

Despite Oasis’seses three dates at the London stadium selling out, many tickets have apparently gone on sale online for as little as £25 – which is almost half the face value. Or, just 51p less than the 12 jar wooden revolving spice rack you can buy in Argos.

Back in ‘95 it was Blur’s Country House which won the battle of Britpop, outselling Oasis’ Roll With It. Although that’s a bit like asking “Which is the best? Solid, but really smelly poo – or sloppy, but smell-free poo?”

14 years has passed - Damon has developed an ape comfort zone with his involvement in the Gorillaz and the opera Monkey: Journey To The West – whilst Liam has launched his own clothing range and Noel currently appears in a promo on Sky News saying how much he likes Sky News. Oh, they also released some albums as well.

Whether or not you give a shit about either band, it’s not really about the music, or north versus south, or even knees-up versus fook-off. It’s a series of headline friendly soundbites between the two that we can all enjoy.

In 1995 Noel famously told The Observer that he hoped Albarn would catch AIDS and die. But it was to be another four years before Albarn made this equally shocking statement about the Gallaghers: “I just think it was a shame when they started appearing in Hello and OK magazines”.

ZING! Couple that searing, pithy wit with the fact that Damon Albarn has the world’s most boring speaking voice and 2009 will clearly be the year of Britpopageddon 2: This Time They’re All A Bit Older And Probably Go To Bed Earlier. It is on. Or not.

This was a guest blog by the insultingly talented Simon Swatman from Mediapill, which you should all look at now because it is phenomenal.
