There is nothing - nothing - in the world more spirit-crushing than ballroom dancing. There is literally not one single thing that makes it any good. The music is rubbish, the clothes are stupid and the ridiculous fixed smiles that the dancers all have to wear make most normal people get exceptionally violent.
However, the BBC series Strictly Come Dancing does it’s best to make ballroom dancing bearable, by getting famous people to dance, thereby making them look like a bunch of massive goons. The show also splits up relationships, and that’s always good TV.
Plus, you can bet on the winners of Strictly Come Dancing. We’ll be doing so later on in the series, but we want to see who dances like a big spaz first. For those of you like to take a risk, we’ll be profiling the pre-series betting odds for each of the contestants - three each day.
Here are the betting odds for three of the Strictly Come Dancing contestants, with some help from Betfair.com…
Zoe Ball - Zoe is the early favourite to win the competition, but
we’re sure that’s just because she’s been in the most publicity shots.
In fact, she generally looks pretty graceless whenever she moves - a
bit like a top-heavy giraffe. But who knows? Maybe she’s a wonderful
dancer. Plus, she was obviously just stuck in because she’s the most
likely to leave her husband for her dance partner - and she admits that
she’s a crappy dancer. Current odds - 33/8
Darren Gough - Poor Darren. By appearing on Strictly Come Dancing,
he’s effectively ruled himself out of ever playing cricket for England
again, because he’s bound to make such a horrific fool out of himself.
He’s one of those tiresome self-proclaimed ‘cheeky chappies’ and has
openly stated that he is also rubbish at dancing. But he’s also said
that he’ll give 125%, which he obviously won’t. We wish people would
stop saying things like that. Current odds - 29/2
Gloria Hunniford - Gloria Hunniford is roughly nine billion years
old. But she sure does love to boogie. Like most elderly people, she’s
more worried that she’s have a nasty fall on the stairs than any actual
dancing. We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that Gloria
probably won’t win the series, but she’ll probably have a lovely time
being on the telly again. Current odds - 21/2
